It's easy to see why the Patriots are the team in favor for everyone's Super Bowl picks.  Tom Brady was so dominate this year it was scary in going 398-for-578 with his passing, that's a 69% completion rate which is unheard of in today's NFL.  He threw for a league record 50 touchdowns and was picked off only eight times.  He had plenty of time to throw as he was socked only 21 times, which allowed him to have a passer rating of 117.2.

A lot was made about the Patriots not having the ability to run the ball, but Laurence Maroney picked up 835 yards on only 185 attempts, which comes out to 4.5 yards per carry.  He also had six touchdowns, but Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk did a good job of spelling Maroney as well.  Those guys combined for 649 yards on only 147 attempts, which was almost 4.5 ypc.

This year Brady had plenty of targets to throw to and Randy Moss and Wes Welker had some stellar numbers.  Moss got most of the attention and was double teamed constantly but still managed to grab 98 balls for 1493 yards, that's 15.2 yards per catch.  He also set a league record with his 23 touchdown grabs.  Welker is the unsung hero who had 112 receptions for 1175 yards.  His eight touchdowns may have paled in comparison to Moss, but this guy was the slot receiver they needed to move the chains.  With Kevin Faulk an excellent 3rd down back, Donte Stallworth a deep threat, and Jabar Gaffney giving another look this team is loaded.  Even tight end Ben Watson caught 36 passes and six touchdowns.

With all of the attention the offense is getting for their record setting numbers, the defense is full of talent as well.  when you have Tedy Brushi, Junior Seau, Adalius Thomas, and Mike Vrabel to play linebacker then you know your squad is stacked with talent.  Rodney Harrison, ellis Hobbs, and Asanta Samuel give the team a talented secondary and the three up front can really plug holes and stop the run.
