New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins NFL Predictions & Lines
The 5-0 New Orleans Saints put their undefeated season on the line when they head to LandShark Stadium to take on the 2-3 Miami Dolphins this Sunday in a Week 7 non-conference showdown. Last week, New Orleans showed doubters that it is for real with a 48-21 blowout win over the Giants. Miami was idle. These teams have not met since the 2005 season when Miami dominated the Saints 21-6. Miami owns a 6-3 lead in the all-time series. NFL lines makers expect New Orleans to remain undefeated, listing the Saints as 6.5-point favorites with the total set at 47.

The Dolphins are 12-8 in their last 20 games following a bye week, including 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six. The Dolphins have also won two straight at home. I expect Miami to be fresh and well prepared this week and we can expect to see a heavy dose of the running game and the Wildcat offense. Running backs Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown are both having terrific seasons, averaging 5.2 and 4.8 yards per carry respectively. Expect to see the Dolphins used the same formula against the Saints that they used against the Colts. The Dolphins were able to dominate the time of possession with their strong running game, keeping Peyton Manning off the field. The result did not end in a win, but it certainly gave the Dolphins the best chance to win. Miami does not want to see Drew Brees and the New Orleans offense with the ball very much at all, especially since Brees figures to have the advantage against rookie cornerbacks Sean Smith and Vontae Davis. It is worth noting that the Dolphins are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games as a home underdog of 3.5-10.0 points. If you like Miami to put its bye week to good use by challenging the Saints this week, bet the Dolphins at +6.5 at Sportsbook.com.
New Orleans’ offense has been hitting on all cylinders. It is averaging 38.4 points per game to lead the league. You also like the fact that Brees has won five straight games against the AFC. Brees has thrown for 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season.
We knew heading into the season that the Saints could throw the football, but the thing holding the offense back was the running game. Those problems appear to be solved and that’s why New Orleans has been unstoppable. Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell, and Reggie Bush combine to put a top five rushing offense on the field for the Saints. In fact, Thomas is averaging a ridiculous 5.9 yards per carry. This unit will be tested this week, however, by a Dolphins run defense that ranks third in the NFL. It is worth noting that the Saints are 15-5-1 against the spread in their last 21 games overall and 17-5 against the number in their last 22 games as a favorite. If you like New Orleans to keep running up the score on its opponents, bet the Saints at -6.5 at Sportsbook.com.
