New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys NFL Odds & Betting
The New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys on NBC’s Sunday Night Football at new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas in a Week 2 NFC East Division showdown. Last week, an explosive Cowboys offense beat the Buccaneers 34-21 and the Giants jumped out to 17-0 lead and held on to win 23-17 against the Redskins. These teams last met in Week 15 a season ago with Dallas winning 20-8 behind a ferocious pass rush that tallied eight sacks against Eli Manning. The Cowboys have won four of the past five regular season matchups and hold a 55-37-2 advantage in the all-time series. NFL odds makers have the Dallas Cowboys listed as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 43.5.

This Sunday Night prime time matchup marks the regular season opening of Jerry Jones’ gaudy football fortress so fans, players, and the Cowboys organization are going to be jacked up for this one. But don’t think the Giants won’t be ready to spoil the party. The Giants have won 47 road openers which is the second most in the history of the NFL so these boys have shown throughout the decades that they can get the job done away from home. They will especially be hungry this week after suffering a double digit defeat in their last visit to Dallas. As I already mentioned, the Cowboys put Manning on his backside eight times in last year’s home win so protecting the QB has to be a priority. With Hakeem Nicks expected to miss this week’s game, wide receiver Steve Smith will have to step up his game even more. He is emerging into the team’s No. 1 wideout and led the Giants with 80 yards in Week 1. The Giants are exceptional at running the football and the duo of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs must get their totes to keep the Cowboys from taking target practice on Manning. Defensively, the Giants boast one of the best pass rushes in the NFL, led by Osi Umenyiora. Try this on for size. In his last 20 games against the NFC East, Umenyiora has 17.5 sacks. It is worth noting that the Giants are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games as a road underdog. If you like New York to spoil Jerry Jones’ home opener, bet the Giants at +3 at Sportsbook.com.
Tony Romo is always dangerous early in the season. He was 16 of 27 for 353 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1, with four players catching passes for gains of 20 yards or more. Dallas has one of the NFL’s most explosive passing games, but you won’t be able to tell it if the line doesn’t hold up on its end of the bargain against a strong New York pass rush. Although, Romo’s mobility often gives him a chance to make plays even when his protection breaks down.
I really believe that Dallas is going to have to get it done on the defensive side of the football if they want to win this game, just like they did in last year’s home meeting. It all starts with DeMarcus Ware, who came up with three sacks the last time these teams met and was constantly bearing down on Manning. It is also worth noting that the Cowboys are 7-0-1 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite of 3.0 points or less. If you like Dallas to hold serve at home, bet the Cowboys at -3 at Sportsbook.com.
