New York Giants at Denver Broncos NFL Picks & Predictions
The New York Giants and the Denver Broncos both got off to fast starts, but both teams have struggled lately. The Giants started the season 5-0 and then lost their next four before escaping with an overtime win against Atlanta last week. The Broncos got off to a 6-0 start and looked to be running away with the AFC West, but they have lost four in a row and now find themselves a game behind the Chargers, who crushed them 32-3 last week. The Giants and the Broncos have not met since New York earned a narrow victory in the 2005 season, but they will finally tee it up again in a Thanksgiving night showdown on the NFL Network. New York leads the all-time series 6-4 and NFL lines makers expect to see it increase its lead, listing the Giants as 7-point favorites with the total set at 42.

The first time the Broncos met the Chargers on Monday Night Football they defeated them by double digits and were riding high. They had just improved to 6-0 and head coach Josh McDaniels was thrust into the spotlight. Last week, when they met the Chargers again, they were crushed, appearing to have bottomed out. Star wide receiver Brandon Marshall went T.O. on rookie running back Knowshon Moreno on the sideline after Moreno fumbled into the end zone. You just don’t see that kind of behavior on good teams because good teams stick together and are confident that they will be able to bounce back. In a short week, the big question is how well McDaniels can get his team ready to play.
During Denver’s six-game winning streak the defense was playing like one of the best in the NFL, but this unit appears to have lost its swagger. In Denver’s six wins, no opponent gained more than 96 yards on the ground. In Denver’s four straight losses, it has given up 125 or more rushing yards per game, including 173 or more the last three weeks. Denver must be able to stop New York’s running attack to get back in the win column. It is worth noting that the Broncos are an impressive 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games as a home underdog. If you like Denver to pull off the upset at home on Thanksgiving night, bet the Broncos at +7 at Bodog.
Both Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are playing with some aches and pains and those bumps and bruises aren’t going to get adequate treatment time playing on a short week. Bradshaw may not even go. Denver knows it has to stop the run, and it just might have some success in doing so against a banged up New York backfield. That means that Eli Manning may have to win this one through the air. Manning is coming off one of his best games of the season, throwing for 384 yards and three touchdowns against only one interception for a passer rating of 111.5. While Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger are getting most of the shine this season, Eli is quietly having a very good season. He has already thrown for 2,454 yards and 18 touchdowns against nine interceptions for a solid passer rating of 92.2 and he has done it without go-to receiver Plaxico Burress. The Giants will likely need another huge game from Eli to survive Denver.
Ending a four-game skid was huge for the Giants and it just may provide the momentum needed to pick up a big Thanksgiving victory. It is worth noting that the Giants are a ridiculous 22-6 ATS in their last 28 road games. If you like New York’s against the spread dominance to continue on the road, bet the Giants at -7 at Bodog.
