New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles NFL Betting Odds & Picks
The New York Giants look to bounce back from back-to-back defeats with first place in the NFC East on the line when they meet the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday. Last week, Eli Manning was picked off three times as the Giants fell 24-17 at home to the Cardinals. The Eagles, meanwhile, forced the Redskins into four turnovers to win 27-17 on Monday Night Football. These teams last met in last year’s NFC Divisional Playoff game with the Eagles winning 23-11. The Giants have won four of the last seven meetings and own an 81-69-2 advantage in the all-time series. NFL Odds makers believe this will be the closest game in Week 8, listing the New York Giants as a slight 1-point favorite with the total set at 44.

Eli Manning has won four straight road starts against the Eagles, but if he wants to make it five in a row, he’s going to have to perform better than he did last week and better than he did in last year’s NFC Divisional Playoff game when he threw two interceptions. Since starting the season on fire, Manning is only completing 48.5 percent of his passes the last two weeks with four interceptions. Manning must do a better job of taking care of the football, but I don’t believe he is the biggest key to victory for New York this week.
The Giants have been at their best the past few seasons when they are putting the heat on opposing quarterbacks and that is something they have failed to do each of the last two weeks. New York’s defensive line was unable to come up with even one sack against Drew Brees and the Saints in Week 6 and it only got to Kurt Warner twice last Sunday. The Giants’ defensive line is supposed to be one of the best in the league, but it has not played like it lately. Justin Tuck and company better come up big Sunday because Donovan McNabb is capable of putting up some big time numbers. The good news for Giants backers is that their team is back on the road where they are an incredible 22-5 against the spread in their last 27 road games. If you like New York to continue its dominance on the road this week, bet the Giants at -1 at Sportsbook.com.
The key to victory is very similar for the Eagles as it is for the Giants. Manning is struggling recently so we can expect the Eagles to go after him to try to force him into more costly mistakes. Star cornerback Asante Samuel is one of the guys that will be stalking Manning when he is under duress. And it is worth noting that Samuel’s teams are an impressive 22-2 when he has an interception.
Offensively, you have to love the fact that the Eagles have not turned the ball over in any of their last three games. Taking care of it again this week will go a long way toward earning a win. The guy I’ll be watching on the offensive side of the football is wide receiver DeSean Jackson. Jackson is averaging an incredible 20.1 yards per catch. His big play ability bit the Redskins last week and it could be a major factor in this matchup as well. It is worth noting that the underdog is 9-0 against the spread in the last nine meetings in this rivalry. If you like this trend to hold true Sunday, bet the Eagles at +1 at Sportsbook.com.
