Of course NFL football betting is not limited to just betting on the spread, you also have the chance to bet on which team is going to win the game outright.  This is called money line betting and deserves only a short write up for football because it is not very popular.  If a team is a small favorite against the spread, such as a 3-point favorite then they will most likely be -130 or so on the money line.  That means that you have to bet $130 in order to win $100.  This can be very attractive if you think the team is going to win, but often they hold on to win by a field goal or less.  We do not use a lot of money line bets for our NFL picks here at Locksmith Sports, but this is another option for beating the Vegas odds.

You can also bet on the totals in the NFL.  A total is the total amount of points scored by both teams combined.  It is also known as over unders because you are going to take the over the total or the under.  This can be an attractive wager if you think the game is going to be a defensive struggle or will be a blowout offensively.  This is a short overview of some of the more popular NFL bets you can place, we hope that you feel more prepared to start betting on the NFL and take it to your man this season.  You can sign up for our free NFL picks, or of course, the best way to beat the football odds is to sign up for one of the premium packages here from an expert handicapper like Jimmy Boyd.

NFL Point Spreads

Do you know how to figure out the NFL odds?  Almost every single person that has gambled on sports has done NFL gambling but just in case you haven't we will do a little explanation.  Each week the odds makers put out the weekly lines.  One team, which is normally the home team, is favored to win the game and will have a minus sign and a number.  This is how many points that team has to win by, so if the team is listed as -4, they have to win by more than 4 points for their backers to win.  If the team wins by 4 points then it's a push and there is no action.
