NFL Player Changes

Written by Jimmy Boyd on August 16, 2008

Each year there are plenty of NFL player changes as teams turnover and try to make themselves better. Coaches and players change positions in the NFL year after year, but how much does the general public pay attention to this and also, how much stock do they put in what they are worth to a new team? We are going to take a look at 2 different situations in which a coach and a team captain changed teams and how this played a part in a big ATS win for our NFL picks during Week 1. Let’s start off with a player/coach of sorts in Lawyer Milloy of the Buffalo Bills. What a mistake the Patriots made the Tuesday before Week 1 in releasing this guy. Surely they didn’t anticipate him going to a division rival, let alone their Week 1 opponent in Buffalo. This gave the Bills a huge advantage, not only from picking up an expert safety like Milloy or in the loss of him from the opposing team, but in the knowledge of New England”’’s system that he brought to Buffalo. Being around until right before the first game meant that he knew exactly how the Pats were preparing for the Bills, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I mean he was the team leader of that defense and the next thing you know he’s in head coach Gregg Williams’s office having his brain picked. This lead to an easy 31-0 Buffalo win and money in the bank for us here at Locksmith Sports.

Another big Week 1 situation was Jacksonville’s Head Coach Jack Del Rio’s return to Carolina. Del Rio served as the defensive coordinator for just a single season but he took a team that ranked 31st in total defense in 2001 and turned them into the league’s 2nd best. He knew the talent on that squad inside and out and devised a game plan that allowed quarterback Mark Brunell to have a near perfect start to the game. These guys should have won easily, but blew it late in the 2nd half. Del Rio might come up big later in the year when the Jags head north to Baltimore to face off against his old team in the Ravens. While being away for 2 season now from Baltimore, he was the linebacker”’’s coach for 3 years in which his defense finished 2nd in each of those seasons. We can smell a big play coming on this game, but of course many factors will be leading up to it and as always you can’t look too far ahead when it comes to football.

As always you need to have plenty of tools available to you when making selections on Sundays. We think that while we might miss something every once in a while, most of the time we pick up on the little things that the linesmakers either miss or anticipate the average Joe will miss. We will be back later in the football season to offer more of our tips and tricks for the public to gain an edge over the house.
