2009 Northern Trust Open Betting Odds

The PGA Tour is headed to its annual stop at the Northern Trust Open, and with less than 2 months to the Masters, this course really gives some golfers a chance to fine tune their game, as it ranked 13th in difficulty last season. There are a number of big names scheduled to participate this weekend, including defending champion Phil Mickelson. When the golfers set aim at Riviera Country Club they not only are forced to hit narrow fairways, but also have to some very tough small greens that makes birdies hard to come by. To get you going on the big tournament this weekend, we have broken the field down into the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots we think have a good chance of playing well this weekend.
Favorites: Padraig Harrington +1500, Phil Mickelson +1500, Mike Weir +2000, and Jim Furyk +2000
While Mickelson might be the most recognizable player of this group, his play of late gives us little reason to believe he is going to come out and light up the course this weekend. The other 3 guys in this group all have great shots at winning this weekend, Harrington has finished in the top 10 the two times he has played here, Weir has been playing some of the best golf to start this season, and has won here twice before, and Furyk’s game is perfect for this course and his 3rd place finish in 2007 shows that.
Middle of the Pack: Ernie Els +2500, Geoff Ogilvy +2500, Kenny Perry +2500, Luke Donald +2500, Vijay Singh +2500, Zach Johnson +2500, Robert Allenby +3000, and Retief Goosen +3000
Figuring out who is going to play the best golf out of this group is no easy task, as each of these golfers have the game to win this weekend. Els and Singh are the big names here, but watch out for Johnson, Perry, and Allenby, as all 3 have just the game needed to attack Riviera.
Long Shots: Justin Rose +4000, KJ Choi +4000, Rory Sabbatini +4000, Charles Howell III +5000, Justin Leonard +5000, Charlie Hoffman +5000, Ryuji Imada +8000, and Ryo Ishikawa +10000
Getting golfers like Rose, Howell III, and Leonard with these kinds of odds is hard to pass up, but out of those three Howell III has played the best here at Riviera, including a win here in 2007. Choi and Imada both placed in the top 10 here last year, while Sbbatini won it all back in 2006. Ishikawa is a 17-year-old Japanese golfer making his first start on the PGA Tour, and this kid has all the potential to be a major threat here in the US, and it’s a great opportunity to get to see his game before he takes part in the Masters.
We know that we haven’t listed all the golfers that are playing this weekend, so we made sure to provide a complete list of golfers odds for the 2009 Northern Trust Open below thanks to Sportsbook.com.
