Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma Football Odds & Picks
The Oklahoma Sooners are again involved in the biggest college football game of the week. This time out they face state rival Oklahoma State in the annual Bedlam game. The Sooners are fresh off of a dominating performance over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. With a win in Saturday’s contest, Oklahoma looks to be in position to end up playing Missouri in the Big 12 Championship, but only if they can jump Texas in the BCS standings with a convincing win over the Cowboys. Oklahoma State doesn’t have as much at stake, but there’s a lot of pride, and Oklahoma State’s own bowl considerations to consider. Oklahoma is a 7 point favorite at Oklahoma State this week with the total set for 72 points.
Oklahoma has been one of, if not the, best offenses in the nation this season. They are averaging nearly 53 points per game and posting a ridiculous 557 yards of total offense per game. The passing offense has been the most impressive, posting just over 350 yards per game behind the arm of Heisman-hopeful quarterback, Sam Bradford, but the rush offense has also been impressive, racking up more than 200 yards per contest. Oklahoma State has been good defensively this year, but right now there’s no offense, other than maybe Florida, playing at the same level as the Sooners.
On defense, the Sooners haven’t been nearly as impressive as they have been on offense. They are allowing 23.4 points per game and just over 350 yards of total offense. The run defense has been rock solid against some pretty good competition. OU is allowing just over 100 yards per game on the ground and opposing running backs are gaining just 3.1 yards per carry against them. They have improved against the pass in recent weeks, but they will face a good Oklahoma State offensive unit this weekend. That being said, the Sooners were able to keep Texas Tech in check long enough to open up a huge lead. You can bet the Sooners -7 at BetUS.com!
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have been no slouches on the offense side of the ball in their own right. They’ve averaged 41.6 points per game so far this season and they’ve been able to rack up over 490 yards of total offense. The running game is especially impressive, racking up 261 yards per game on 5.7 yards per carry. The passing numbers are nearly as impressive, but they are gaining 231 yards per game and 10.2 yards per attempt through the air. They’ll be facing an ultra-confident Oklahoma defense this week, but the Cowboys could definitely cause some problems for the Sooners.
On defense the Cowboys have enjoyed similar success to Oklahoma. Their numbers aren’t staggering, but they’ve helped OSU to a 9-2 record this season, so they must be doing something right. To this point they are giving up just under 24 points per game and allowing 377 yards of total offense. The biggest hole in the defense appears to be the against the pass, where the Cowboys allow 61.9% completions against them. With Sam Bradford coming to town, that could pose some major problems. There will be bedlam this weekend in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Sooners need to win to keep any chance of a BCS title trip alive. Big Game Bob Stoops should have his troops ready to play, but the Cowboys are no pushovers. This game is every bit as dangerous as any the Sooners have played in to this point in the season.
