Oklahoma State at Texas Tech Football Picks & Odds
One of the best games of the week again involves Texas Tech as they host eighth ranked team in the nation, the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Now ranked number two in the nation, the Red Raiders are currently sitting at 9-0 after turning a lot of heads last week by knocking off the then-first ranked Texas Longhorns. Oklahoma State is have an impressive season in their own right. They came as close as anyone, next to Texas Tech, to beating the Longhorns just a week before Texas Tech got their crack at them. This game also has important Big 12 implications for both teams, but that is greatly overshadowed by the potential impact on the BCS standings. Linesmakers are expecting a close one, but they have given the edge to the Red Raiders, as Texas Tech is a 3.5 point favorite over Oklahoma State this week with the total placed at 68 points.
If you haven’t been following Texas Tech this year, they’ve been nothing short of amazing on offense this season. At this point in the season they are putting up 47 points per game and have accumulated 559 yards per game. The majority of the offensive production comes from Tech’s legitimate Heisman candidate, Graham Harrell, who is completing over 70 percent of his passes and is putting up 402 yards per game on the year. Graham has 30 touchdown passes to just 5 interceptions, good enough to earn him a 165.9 passer rating. For Oklahoma State to have any real chance in this game, they will need to find anyway they can to disrupt Graham.
The Red Raiders’ defense isn’t great, but it doesn’t have to be with the offense behind it. Tech’s unit is still solid, though. On the year they are yielding just 22 points per game and 350 yards per game. The bonus from the defense comes in the form of turnovers. So far this season Texas Tech’s defense has already force 22 turnovers, a huge bonus for any team. If you’ve been impressed with what the Raiders have done already this season and feel like they are the best bet of the day, check out Sportsbook.com where Texas Tech is a 3.5 point favorite.
Not many teams can match the sheer numbers of Texas Tech’s offense, but Oklahoma State comes close. The Cowboys are scoring 45 points per game and putting up 519 yards of total offense, both number just under what Tech has been able to accomplish. The Oklahoma State offensive attack differs from Texas Tech’s in that they rely more heavily on the run than they do on the pass. Currently rushing for more than 270 yards on the ground, it’s hard to believe that OSU has time to throw for over 230 yards per game as well, but they find a way to do it. Texas Tech has faced it’s fair share of good offenses this year, but this will be the best running game they’ve had to face this season.
The Cowboys’ defense is very similar to Tech’s in that they don’t have fantastic numbers, but they really don’t need to. They allow about three TDs per game and just under 360 yards of total offense. The Cowboys have been almost as opportunistic as the Raiders have as well, forcing 20 turnovers to Tech’s 22. Both squads have impressed all season long with their ability to move the ball and score points, but someone will have to step up their game on defense to pull out the victory. This is a dangerous game for Texas Tech, who could be set up for a letdown after an emotional win over Texas last week. With that being said, the Raiders did beat the same Texas team that beat Oklahoma State a few weeks ago and they get the coveted home field advantage.
