This is probably one of the biggest games in the history of Oregon State football. With a win over the Oregon Ducks this week the Beavers would pass USC for the rights to the Pac-10 title, which brings with it a trip to the BCS Rose Bowl and a chance to face Penn State. Don’t expect Oregon to go quietly though. This is a bitter rivalry and the Ducks are no pushovers as 8-3 on the season. Oregon State has everything to win and everything to lose in Saturday’s state rivalry battle. Oregon State a 3 point favorite over rival Oregon this week and the total for the game is now 62 points.

The Oregon Ducks have been one of the best teams in the nation at putting up points. They are currently averaging 39.8 points per game on 459 yards of total offense. What’s so impressive about this offense is how well it’s been able to run the ball. Oregon is running for 268 yards per game on 6 yards per carry. Sure, the passing game looks bad by putting up just 190 yards per contest, but who can blame them with the effectiveness of their running game. Several teams would be happy enough throwing for 6 yards per pass attempt. The Ducks are doing that running the ball this year.

On defense the Oregon Ducks aren’t bad, but they’ve struggled a bit against some very good Pac-10 offenses. So far they’ve given up 27.1 points per game and just over 375 yards of total offense per game. There isn’t a real strength or huge weakness, Oregon gives up 122 yards and 254 yards through the air. Oregon State has put together an effective and balanced attack on the offensive side of the ball. They are gaining 171 rushing yards per game to compliment their 243 yards through the air. Their 414 yards of total offense have allowed the Beavers to post 32.4 points per game and has been a major factor in the success they’ve enjoyed this season. Oregon State faces an Oregon defense this week that isn’t particularly good against the run or the pass, so it’s not out of the question they’ll be able to post numbers similar to what they have all season.

The Beavers have been solid on defense, especially at home. They are allowing 21 points per game, but just 17 points per game on their home field. Overall, they are allowing just 290 yards of total offense per game, and that number only gets better at home where the Beavers have allowed just 237 yards of total offense per game. Oregon State’s biggest concern this week will no doubt be the run, as the Ducks run the ball on over 66% of their plays from scrimmage.
