Oregon State at Arizona Football Odds
With a win Saturday over the Arizona Wildcats, the Oregon State Beavers are one win closer to winning the Pac-10 conference over the USC Trojans. Both Oregon State and USC currently have one loss in the conference, but since Oregon State won the head to head match up, they’ll win the conference if they can get past Arizona this week, then past Cal in their final game. First things first, though, the Beavers have a game on the road this week against Arizona that is very dangerous. Arizona is currently a 2.5 point favorite over Oregon State with the total set at 56.5 points.
Oregon State possesses one of the more proficient offensive units in the nation, excelling on the ground as well as through the air. The Beavers score 33.7 points per game on 416 total yards of offense. They split the load nicely, running for 172 yards per game and throwing for just over 244 yards per game. The combination of QB Lyle Moevao and standout freshman running back Jacquizz Rogers have been giving defenses fits all season long. Arizona will have to be on their best game to keep them under wraps.
Defensively Oregon State’s numbers aren’t as impressive as their offense’s, but they are still solid in an offense-heavy Pac-10 conference. They are allowing a modest 22 points per game and only 288 yards of total offense. Perhaps most impressive is the Beavers’ pass defense, which is allowing only 180 yards per contest. They’ve played the best the conference has to offer, as far as offenses go, and they’ve done very well against them. Everything is on the line for Oregon State this week and they are 2.5 point underdogs against Arizona.
In typical Pac-10 style, the Arizona Wildcat put up some gaudy numbers on offense. They are averaging nearly 40 points per game and well over 400 yards of total offense. Arizona quarterback, Wille Tuitama has been Arizona’s biggest asset on offense, he’s amassed 2,321 yards through the air this year with 18 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions (two of which came last week in the Wildcats’ loss against Oregon). When Tuitama is on, this is a tough group to stop.
As far as the numbers go, the Arizona defense has been stout compared to most of the Pac-10. They’ve held opponents under 23 points per game and are allowing just over 300 yards of total offense. The problem has been when they have faced an offense that is “on” like they did last week against Oregon, giving up 504 total yards to the Ducks’ prolific offense. Oregon State doesn’t have the passing game of Oregon, but they are every bit as dangerous. This will be a real test to how good the Wildcats really are on D. The Wildcats are 2.5 point favorites this week.
The cliche you’ve heard a thousand times about this game is that Oregon State controls their own destiny in the Pac-10. The thing about cliches is that they are almost always true. Oregon State has to win to keep pace with the USC Trojans for the conference title. Arizona is playing for bowl placement, which is motivation enough, but is it enough for them to get up and play their best football against a hyper-motivated Oregon State team?
