Patriots Jets Odds
The New York Jets would have been the laughing stock of the AFC East a year ago if it weren’t for the Miami Dolphins. They still got some laughs by posting a 4-12 mark just one season after winning 10 games and advancing to the playoffs. Now that Brett Favre has come to town and the Jets are off to a 1-0 start, things already appear to be looking up. They catch another huge break this week with the injury of New England Patriots QB Tom Brady. Because of this injury, JustBet odds makers have installed the Jets as 1-point favorites when they would have certainly been underdogs. For over a month, the New York Jets were getting all the quarterback headlines with the arrival of future Hall of Famer Brett Favre. Now, Tom Brady’s season-ending knee injury has the Patriots stealing all the quarterback headlines. Matt Cassel steps under center for the Pats this week as they play their first game in nearly seven years without Tom Brady.
Since taking over as New England’s starter in 2001, Brady has become the face of the Patriots and arguably of the entire NFL. He has led the Pats to three Super Bowl titles, captured NFL MVP honors, throwing a record 50 touchdown passes in a season, a leading his team to a perfect 16-0 regular season mark while starting 128 straight games.
Cassel stepped in for Brady against the Chiefs in week 1 and looked solid, completing 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in a 17-10 win to extend New England’s regular season win streak to a league-high 20 games.
Cassel knows he is going to have to be even better this week as he faces off against Brett Favre. Cassel backed up star QB’s Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC and has not started a game since 1999 when he was a senior in high school.
Perhaps this is just the beginning of a storied career. After all, this is just how Brady’s career began. I week 2 of the 2001 season, New England starter Drew Bledsoe went down with a chest injury. Brady took over and the rest was history. If you that Cassel has what it takes to lead New England to victory this week, bet the Patriots at +1.5 at Bookmaker.
With Tom Brady done for the season, expectations automatically rise for the Jets as they hope Favre can lead them back to the postseason. Favre was 15 of 22 for 194 yards and two touchdowns in New York’s season opening win against the Dolphins. But I’m not ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet. We can’t quickly forget that the Jets beat a team which only won one game a season ago. They’re going to have to beat the class of the AFC East for people to really start taking them seriously.
Favre has already been spreading the wealth and he may have already found a favorite target in Jerricho Cotchery. Cotchery only scored two touchdowns last season, but already found the end zone in week 1 on a 56-yard bomb.
The Jets will be trying to get a big monkey off their back this week as New England holds a 7-game winning streak against them in New York. The Jets will also be looking to get off to their first 2-0 start since 2004. If you think Brett and the Jets can get the job done, bet the Jets at BetUS and receive up to a 50% signup bonus.
