Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants NFL Predictions & Picks
The 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles take on the 7-5 New York Giants in a Week 14 NFC East Division battle on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Last week, Philly pulled even with Dallas with a 34-7 blowout over Atlanta and a little help from the Giants, who defeated Dallas 31-24. These two teams have already met once this season with Philly winning 40-17. This matchup has been a tight one with each team taking six of the last 12 meetings, but the Giants own an 81-69-2 lead in the all-time series. NFL odds makers expect this to be one of the best games of the week, listing the Giants as a slim 1-point favorite with the total set at 44.

If the playoffs started today, the Eagles would be in and the Giants would be out, but all that can change in a hurry if New York is able to take care of business at home Sunday night. Eli Manning is having another solid season despite a bothersome foot injury, needing only 75 yards for his fifth consecutive 3,000-yard season. But for the Giants to win this week, it will be more important that they get a big game from running back Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs hasn’t been the same explosive back that we have come to know over the last couple seasons, but maybe the problem is he should be playing wide receiver. Jacobs took a short Manning pass 74 yards to the house last week, showing the explosiveness he had been missing for much of the season. Whether it is in the running game, or as a receiver out of the backfield, the Giants will need Jacobs to perform well for them to win Sunday.
The defense is going to have to perform well too. In the season’s first meeting, the Giants were embarrassed by the Eagles’ big-play offense, allowing 40 points. The key will be not giving up the big play. The Eagles have been a big play offense all season and when they aren’t making those big plays they can lose to anyone. We saw that when they lost to the Raiders. Maybe the Giants are ready to make a late season run. After all, they are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games in December. If you like New York to win Sunday night to get right back in the playoff race, bet the Giants at -1 at Bodog.
The Eagles should be in good hands with QB Donovan McNabb under center. After all, he has won 10 of his last 14 starts against the Giants. New York certainly brought out the best in McNabb in the season’s first meeting when he completed 73.9 percent of his passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. It all adds up to an awesome 146.7 passer rating. One of those touchdown passes went to tight end Brent Celek, who is having a terrific season with 56 catches for 617 yards and six touchdowns. New York must slow down Celek, Jeremy Maclin, and DeSean Jackson to have a chance Sunday.
The key to an Eagles victory could be the play of Asante Samuel. Samuel is one of the game’s best corners and he has had Manning’s number, picking him off in consecutive games now. If Samuel is able to pull off the trifecta, it will go a long way toward a Philly win. It is worth noting that the underdog is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings. If you like this trend to continue, bet the Eagles at +1 at Bodog.
