Philadelphia Eagles at Oakland Raiders NFL Spread & Predictions
The 3-1 Philadelphia Eagles head to McAfee Coliseum looking to be the next team to beat up on the 1-4 Oakland Raiders. Last week, the Eagles took care of the Buccaneers 33-14 while the Raiders were destroyed 44-7 by the Giants. These two teams last met in the 2005 season with the Eagles edging out the Raiders 23-20. The all-time series is all tied up at five games a piece. NFL odds makers expect Philadelphia to roll Sunday, listing the Eagles as 14-point favorites with the total set at 40.5.

It was good to see Brian Westbrook back on the field for the Eagles last week. He only got six carries, but it was a nice chance to get his feet wet again. Fellow running back LeSean McCoy has filled in nicely and is gaining a lot of experience in a hurry. Once Westbrook is at, or near, 100 percent, Philly will have a formidable tailback duo to throw at its opponents.
Thus far, Michael Vick has not been much of a factor in the Eagles offense, but I have a feeling that there is going to come a time this season when he comes up with a big play for them. Playing a struggling Raiders team should give Philly the chance to get Vick some more snaps so he can continue to work his way back to the player he was before his jail sentence.
Another thing to know heading into this week’s game is that QB Donovan McNabb only needs one passing touchdown to become only the eighth player in NFL history to pass for 200 touchdowns and to run for 25 scores.
Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin could be on the receiving end of McNabb’s historical pass Sunday. Maclin had six catches for 142 yards and two scores last week. Those two scores were for 51 and 40 yards. As if DeSean Jackson wasn’t enough, it looks like the Eagles have themselves another game breaker. It is worth noting that the Eagles are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite of 10.5 or more points. If you like Philadelphia to beat the number in Oakland Sunday, bet the Eagles at -14 at Sportsbook.com.
Since being competitive in each of their first two games, the Raiders have been absolutely crushed each of the last three weeks by a combined score of 96-16. The offense has been atrocious and I’m going to put a good portion of the blame on QB JaMarcus Russell. Russell is looking more and more like a bust. I know he is still a young QB but his issues with accuracy and decision-making make him the worst QB in the league right now in my opinion. Recently, he has added fumblitis to his list of problems. Russell has lost four fumbles the past two weeks. One thing is for sure, the Raiders will not be able to compete with Philadelphia if they turn the ball over. Philly has already forced five fumbles this season and will no doubt be going after Russell with its blitzing defense.
The Raiders did play well against San Diego at home in Week 1. Perhaps, after spending consecutive weeks on the road they can rediscover that magic Sunday. It is worth noting that the Eagles are only 3-8 against the number in their last 11 road games versus teams with a losing home record. If you think Oakland finally comes to play at home this week, bet the Raiders at +14 at Sportsbook.com.
