Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Odds

The preseason NFC favorites to win the Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys, didn’t even make the playoffs as the Eagles crushed them in week 17 to get the final spot. The reigning Super Bowl champion Giants are no more either, as the Eagles took care of them in last Sunday’s NFC Divisional playoff matchup. QB Donovan McNabb and head coach Andy Reid couldn’t been on a hotter seat midway through the regular season when the Eagles tied the lowly Bengals and were crushed by the Ravens in a game in which McNabb was benched, but the two have stuck to their guns and are now on the brink of getting back to the Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles are listed at +200 to win the Super Bowl.
Philly’s 23-11 win over the New York Giants earned the team its fifth trip to the NFC title game in the last eight years. The Eagles are listed as 3.5-point favorites to beat the Arizona Cardinals in the Conference Championship. Philly started its turnaround at home on Thanksgiving night when they crushed the Cardinals 48-20, but the Eagles know not to take this team lightly. The Cardinals dominated the NFC No. 2 seed Panthers last Saturday on the road. The Panthers had not been beaten at home this season and the Cardinals had previously struggled on the road.
McNabb and the Eagles offense was not at its best against the Giants, but it rose to the occasion when it mattered most. McNabb engineered two game-changing third-quarter scoring drives that turned an 11-10 deficit into a 20-11 lead. The rushing offense was not good at all, averaging only 2.1 yards per carry, but head coach Andy Reid did not abandon it. That was the key as it kept the Giants honest.
Defensively, the Eagles were dominant. They completely shut down the Giants passing attack, holding Eli Manning to a modest 5.8 yards per pass average. The Eagles picked him off twice and kept him from throwing a touchdown strike. It was the fifth straight opponent that Philly has held without a passing touchdown.
The Giants did gain 138 yards on the ground, but that is a mediocre day for one of the best running attacks in the NFL. Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley played an exceptional game and got major penetration to stop the Giants on two fourth-and-one situations in the fourth quarter. Cornerback Asante Samuel has also been exceptional in the postseason. He led the Eagles in interceptions this season with four and already has two more in the playoffs. He returned one of a score against the Vikings in the Wild Card round and returned another to set up a touchdown last week.
McNabb was instrumental in the Eagles first win over the Cardinals this season, completing 27 of 39 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns. While Kurt Warner was able to throw three touchdown passes, the Eagles intercepted him three times. Running back Brian Westbrook was also a key contributor in that game, rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He is banged up with a sore knee, but is still expected to go this Sunday. The NFL odds makers expect to see the Eagles and the Steelers in the Super Bowl come February 1st.
