Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens NFL Predictions & Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

The 6-4 Pittsburgh Steelers take on the 5-5 Baltimore Colts on NBC’s Sunday Night Football in a Week 12 AFC North Division rivalry clash. The Steelers will be trying to bounce back from a 27-24 overtime loss to Kansas City and the Ravens will try to bounce back from a 17-15 heartbreaker to the Colts. These two rivals last met in last season’s AFC Championship Game with Pittsburgh winning 23-14 for a third straight victory over the Ravens on the season. Pittsburgh holds an 18-10 lead in the all-time series. NFL odds makers have listed the Baltimore Ravens as 2.5-point favorites Sunday night.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has won his last four starts against the Ravens, but he likely won’t get a chance to make it five in a row Sunday. Big Ben is not expected to play after suffering a concussion against the Chiefs. To make matters worse, the Steelers will be without backup Charlie Batch, who is out indefinitely with a wrist injury. That means that former Oregon Ducks star Dennis Dixon, who has thrown only one NFL pass, will be counted on to lead the defending Super Bowl champs. That also means that Pittsburgh will have to rely more heavily on its defense and the ground game. Without Big Ben on the field, you know Baltimore will stack the box to make the Steelers beat them through the air. I can’t see Pittsburgh winning this one unless Dixon is able to make some plays. It is worth noting that blind plays on road teams off a road loss, in the second half of the season, are 67-31 ATS the last five seasons. If you think Pittsburgh can overcome the loss of its starting QB, bet the Steelers at +2.5 at Bodog.

Much like second-year QB Matt Ryan of the Falcons, Ravens second-year QB Joe Flacco has hit a rough patch. He led the Ravens to the AFC Title Game as a rookie and then started off his sophomore season on fire. But over the past few weeks, Flacco has looked rattled. He has thrown three interceptions and no touchdowns in his last three games and now he faces a defense that had his number last season. He must maintain his poise at all times because if he can have a good game, the Ravens would certainly appear to have the edge. It’s also going to be a good idea for Baltimore to get the ball in the hands of Ray Rice as often as possible. He ranks second in the AFC with 1,248 yards from scrimmage, serving as a major asset in both the running and passing games.

Defensively, Baltimore may be able to take advantage of Pittsburgh’s young signal caller. That means it could be Ed Reed time. Reed leads the NFL with 46 interceptions since 2002 and he will be looking to make another big play Sunday night. It is worth noting that the Ravens are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games. If you like Baltimore to take care of business at home Sunday, bet the Ravens at -2.5 at Bodog.
