Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs Line
The Oakland Raiders (7-7) will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs (6-8) Saturday.
The Raiders are currently a slim one-point favorite with the total set at 42.
Oakland could have moved into a tie with Denver for first place in the AFC West but wasn’t able to hold on to a 13-point fourth-quarter advantage in Sunday’s 28-27 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Carson Palmer connected on 32 of 40 pass attempts for 367 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. His touchdown toss went to Darrius Heyward-Bey, who led the team with eight receptions and 155 receiving yards.
Michael Bush led the way on the ground with 77 of the team’s 132 rushing yards.
Louis Murphy, who finished with 16 yards on two totes, had the team’s only rushing touchdown.
Last week, the Chiefs pulled off perhaps the biggest upset of the season with a 19-14 win over the previously undefeated Green Bay Packers.
Though he didn’t throw a touchdown pass, Kyle Orton was terrific in his first start as a Chief. He completed 23 of 31 passes for 299 yards and no interceptions. Two passes found the hands of Leonard Pope, who led the team with 72 receiving yards.
Thomas Jones led the ground attack with 48 of the team’s 139 rushing yards.
Jackie Battle, who finished with 37 yards on 10 carries, had the team’s only touchdown.
Another big game from Orton figures to go a long way toward another win. The Chiefs, who have one of the worst passing offenses in the NFL with 186.1 yards per game, are 4-0 this season when gaining more than 240 yards through the air.
Orton should be able to find some throwing lanes against an Oakland defense ranked 23rd in the league against the pass with 243.8 yards allowed per game.
The Chiefs only passed for 161 yards in their 28-0 win in Oakland on Oct. 23 but were able to take advantage of six Raider turnovers.
The Raiders were 6-0 against AFC West opponents in the 2010 season but are just 2-2 this season.
The Chiefs hold a 26-13 advantage in the series dating back to 1992, but the two have split the last six meetings.
The Raiders just might be the play Saturday as they are 8-0 against the spread in road games versus division opponents since the beginning of the 2009 season. They have won these games by an average score of 26.8 to 15.9.
As far as the total is concerned, the Raiders have finished over the total in five straight while the Chiefs have finished under the number in eight of their last nine.
These two have finished under the number in six of their last seven head-to-head matchups.
