Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins NFL Week 11 Picks & Predictions

If anyone could get the train wreck that was the Miami Dolphins turned around, it was Bill Parcells, however, few thought he could get the ship sailing in the right direction so quickly. Just one year after flirting with a winless season, the Dolphins are rolling and in the hunt for the AFC playoffs. The Oakland Raiders have shown that you can spend all the money in the world and still not put a contender on the field is the pieces of the puzzle aren’t the right pieces. Miami spent many of its games last season as a heavy underdog and this week it will get to see what it feels like to be on the other end of the spectrum. Odds makers have listed the Dolphins as 10-point favorites with the total set at 38.5.

Miami will be going for its fourth straight win on Sunday and should be in good position to get it against an offense that has scored only 16 total points during a three-game slide. Miami remembers exactly what that feels like as it took 13 straight losses, including a 35-17 home defeat to Oakland last September. The Dolphins were able to avoid being the first-ever 0-16 team with a 22-16 win over Baltimore on December 16. That win, along with the hiring of head coach Tony Sparano and front-office executive Bill Parcells has helped turned the Dolphins around in a hurry. Miami comes into this contest at 5-4, having win five of its last seven games. Bringing in QB Chad Pennington has been as good a move as any made in year one of the rebuilding project and the running back duo of Chad Pennington and Ronnie Brown have combined for 1,190 yards from scrimmage through the first nine game. Like most teams affiliated with Parcells, the Dolphins have shown a heightened sense of valuing the football as Miami has a NFL-low seven giveaways and hasn’t turned the ball over more than once in a game all season. The Dolphins were not at their best last Sunday but still managed a 21-19 win over Seattle. The defense came up big at just the right time, denying a two-point conversion attempt by Seattle which would have tied the game late in the fourth. If you like Miami to cover the spread this week, bet the Dolphins at -10 at BetUS and receive up to a 50% sign up bonus.

The Raiders’ defense ranks 29th in the NFL against the run and knows it is going to have to do a much better job this week against a run heavy attack, however, Oakland has even bigger problems offensively. Despite getting QB JaMarcus Russell and running back Darren McFadden in the last two NFL drafts, the Raiders have experienced a lot or trouble scoring the football. The Raiders have now gone nine straight quarters without scoring a touchdown. Two weeks ago they managed only 77 total yards against the Falcons and came up with just two field goals last week against Carolina. The Raiders did play a much better game on both sides of the ball last week but came away with nothing to show for it. Oakland averaged 9.8 yards per carry against a solid Panthers defense and intercepted QB Jake Delhomme four times, but not being able to find the end zone cost them. Andrew Walter was the QB for the Raiders in the loss, filling in for an injured JaMarcus Russell who remains questionable Sunday. The Raiders are hopeful to get Darren McFadden back in the lineup this week. He has been sidelined the last three games with turf toe. If you think Oakland will continue to show progress against the Dolphins this week, bet the Raiders at +10 at BetUS.
