Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins NFL Picks & Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd on October 18, 2008

The Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins game will be a quest for.500 for two surprise teams built on smash mouth football. The Dolphins have added the Wildcat offensive twist to their smash mouth style with RB Ronnie Brown and QB Chad Pennington manning the controls. Miami (2-3) GM Bill Parcells has built him self a fine squad that is just short in the talent department in the secondary and big-play wideouts. The Ravens (2-3) have done a fine job under rookie QB Joe Flacco. Flacco was off in a 3-31 loss last week vs Indianapolis but he still has great arm strength. Flacco (1 TD 7 INT) will be guided by offensive coordinator Cam Cameron who was the Dolphins head coach last season. Cameron will no question look for some revenge over the team that released him after his 1-15 rookie head coaching performance. The NFL betting odds for the Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins game is Miami -3 on the SPREAD.

Ronnie Brown is a stud player manning the Dolphins Wildcat formation offense. When Brown (4.45 40-speed) isn’t making plays in the Wildcat he is tearing up defenses for 4.7 yards per carry. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh didn’t think much of the Miami level of talent last year and had this to say about the team that Cam Cameron coached that included, Pro-Bowler, Ronnie Brown. “He was an effective coach in Miami last year, Even though the results weren’t what people were hoping for, he did a great job there with what he had to work with.” Miami will look to make the Ravens menacing defense pay for their coach’s words. WR Greg Camarillo (21 Rec 263 Yds. 1 TD) has emerged as a Wes Welker sort of threat in Miami’s offense. Dolphins QB Chad Pennington (98.8 passer rating) has been very accurate on his passes to the 6′1″ 190 Lb. Camarillo and burner WR Ted Ginn Jr. (4.30 40-speed). The Miami wideouts will be faced with the task of dealing with a stout Ravens secondary led by safety Ed Reed that is allowing only a 62.0 passer rating. The Ravens will be banged up in the secondary in this game with injuries to 2 starters. The Ravens will need heat from their big 3-4 defense to create havoc for Pennington. Look for Baltimore defensive leader 6′1″ 255 Lb. MLB Ray Lewis (36 tackles 1.0 sack) to be a ball-hawking prescence against the Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown.

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (60.6 passer rating) could see a lot of Miami OLB Joey Porter (6.5 Sacks). Porter is playing at a world-class level and has displayed dominant all-around skills to lead Miami’s 13th ranked defense. The 6′3″ 255 Lb. Porter (4.60 40-speed) plays with an outstanding motor and intimidates opponents with his physical play. The Ravens could be without 2 of their offensive tackles which could leave Flacco exposed to Porter and DE Matt Roth (2.0 Sacks). Baltimore will be faced with a Miami defense likely to load 9 men in the box and dare QB Flacco to throw. The Dolphins 29th ranked secondary could be at risk if starting CB Will Allen (questionable) misses the game. Ravens starting RB Willis McGahee (3.2 YPC 1 TD) hasn’t shown the same burst this season but, the Ravens have used 6′0″ 260 LB. Le’Ron McClain (4.1 YPC 4 TD) effectively. If Miami’s 8th ranked rush defense can’t contain McClain and McGahee they could have a problem. The NFL betting odds OVER\UNDER in the Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins game is at a low 36.5 points.

Miami has shown they can win with a weak armed QB in Chad Pennington. The Ravens rookie QB Joe Flacco could be sacked against Miami more than he has ever before. Miami’s secondary will need to play better than they did last week when the Houston Texans wideouts burnt them all day. The Dolphins special teams were also an area of concern but head coach Tony Sparano should have some coverage issues corrected. The NFL betting odds for the Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins game is Miami -140 on the MONEYLINE.
