Washington Redskins at New York Giants Line

Written by Jimmy Boyd on December 12, 2011

Fresh off their biggest win of the season, the New York Giants (7-6) will host the Washington Redskins (4-9) Sunday in an NFC East showdown.

The Giants are currently listed as a seven-point favorite with the total set at 45.5.

New York rallied from 12 points down late in the fourth quarter to win 37-34 at Dallas Sunday night. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and put the Giants in first place.

Eli Manning connected on 27 of 37 pass attempts for 400 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Seven completions went to Hakeem Nicks, who led the team with 154 receiving yards.

Mario Manningham and Jake Ballard hauled in the two touchdown passes.

Brandon Jacobs led the way on the ground with 101 yards and two scores on 19 carries.

Despite a good effort, the Redskins fell 34-27 at home to the New England Patriots.  It was their eighth loss  in nine games.

Rex Grossman completed 19 of 32 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns and one pick. Four passes found the hands of Donte’ Stallworth, who led the team with 96 receiving yards.

Jabar Gaffney and David Anderson caught Grossman’s two touchdown strikes.

Roy Helu led the rushing attack with 126 yards on 27 carries.

The Redskins, who outgained the Patriots 463-431, should be able to move the football on a New York defense that enters Week 15 ranked 30th in the NFL with 391.6 yards allowed per game.

The Giants have especially struggled against the pass. They are currently 29th in the league with 263.7 passing yards allowed per game.

With this in mind, Grossman, who leads the 12th-best passing offense in the NFL (237.9 yards per game), could be poised for a big game. He has led the Redskins to a 3-1 against the spread record the last four weeks while passing for 1,079 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

While New York will likely continue to struggle on defense, it should still have an opportunity to win the rest of its games if Manning continues to play at a high level. He is currently fourth in the NFL with 4,105 passing yards and has thrown 25 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions.

The Giants have won six of the last seven in this series, but the Redskins won the most recent meeting 28-14 on Sept. 11.

The Redskins just might be the play again Sunday as they are a perfect 10-0 against the spread in their last 10 games in the second half of the season versus terrible defensive teams that allow six yards or more per play.

In regard to the total, the over figures to get some attention. After all, the Redskins have played to the over in four straight and the Giants have finished over the total in each of their last three.
