New Orleans Saints at St. Louis Rams Line
The St. Louis Rams (0-6) will be looking for their first victory of the season when they host the New Orleans Saints (5-2) Sunday.
Odds makers predict the Rams will still be looking for their first win in Week 9. They are currently listed as a 13-point underdog with the total set at 47.5.
The Rams fell 34-7 on the road to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. They hung around in the first half but were outscored 17-0 in the second.
Starting for an injured Sam Bradford, A.J. Feeley completed 20 of 33 passes for 196 yards and an interception. New acquisition Brandon Lloyd was on the receiving end of six of those completions to lead the team with 74 yards.
Running back Steven Jackson rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
The Saints enter Week 8 off an impressive 62-7 home win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Quarterback Drew Brees put on a show, connecting on 31 of 35 pass attempts for 325 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.
Wide receiver Marques Colston led the team with seven catches for 98 yards and two scores.
Rookie running back Mark Ingram led the ground attack with 91 of the team’s 236 rushing yards.
Brees leads the NFL 2,477 passing yards, but he could take a backseat to the New Orleans running game Sunday. That’s because the Rams rank dead last in the league with 184 rushing yards allowed per contest.
Last week, St. Louis gave up 294 yards on the ground to the Cowboys.
The Saints rank second in the NFL in passing offense with 341 yards per game, but they have been no slouch on the ground. They rank No. 9 in the league with 126.1 rushing yards per contest.
Playing keep-away from the New Orleans offense gives St. Louis the best chance to stay in the game. In order to do so, we can expect the Rams to come with a heavy dose of Jackson, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards each of the past six seasons.
The New Orleans defense ranks 15th in the league against the run with 115.7 yards allowed per game.
These two have split the last four meetings with the Saints winning the last two. They recorded a 31-13 home win over the Rams last season and a 28-23 road win in 2009.
The Rams are 0-6 against the spread in their six games this season, but their first against the spread victory could be coming this week. After all, the Saints are only 3-10 against the number in their last 13 games versus a team with a losing record and 1-5 against the spread in their last six games as a road favorite.
In regard to the total, the over has been the play. These two have combined to finish over the number in six of the last eight matchups. Also, these teams have played to the over in seven of their last eight in St. Louis.
