San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans NFL Week 7 Picks & Predictions
The San Francisco 49ers head to Houston to take on the Texans in a Week 7 non-conference clash this Sunday. Last week, Houston looked impressive, ending the Bengals four-game winning streak with a 28-17 victory in Cincinnati. The 49ers are hoping to put last week’s bye to good use. They were drilled 45-10 by Atlanta in their last game. These teams have only met once and it was a good one. Joe Nedney came through with a 33-yard field goal to lift the 49ers past the Texans in overtime in the 2005 season. NFL odds makers are expecting another close contest, listing the Houston Texans as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 44.

Houston has won five straight games at home against the NFC and that streak figures to improve Sunday if QB Matt Schaub continues to deliver. Schaub has been on fire, throwing for 1,644 yards,14 touchdowns and only four interceptions over the past five weeks. He will certainly have his way with the 49er defense if it plays like it did against Matt Ryan and the Falcons last time out when it allowed 329 yards through the air. It is certainly worth noting that Houston is 9-3 when Schaub posts a passer rating of 100 or better.
Houston fans are dying to see back-to-back wins, but its team has not shown the consistency to pull off such a feat. Since Gary Kubiak took over, we’ve seen incredible wins and terrible losses. Last week’s impressive win over Cincy would suggest that the Texans are due for another letdown. It would be a big step in the right direction if Houston can win again Sunday. It is worth noting that the 49ers are 0-6 against the number in their last six games as an underdog of 3.0 points or less. If you like Houston to win back-to-back games for the first time this season, bet the Texans at -3 at BetUS.
There is plenty of big news in San Francisco this week with wide receiver Michael Crabtree all set to make his season debut and running back Frank Gore set to return from injury. It was starting to look like Crabtree would never sign, but the 49ers and the promising young wideout finally got a deal done and it appears they are going to waste no time getting him out on the field. Crabtree is expected to see plenty of action Sunday and the Niners are hoping that he can have an impact against the Texans’ 19th ranked pass defense. I suppose it is fitting that Crabtree will make his debut in the state of Texas since he played his college ball at Texas Tech.
While there is plenty of excitement about Crabtree finally seeing the field, Gore’s return is the more important one. The Niners struggled without him last week. With Gore back, they get a player who has the most rushing yards in the NFC since the beginning of the 2006 season (4,074). It is worth noting that the 49ers are 9-1-1 against the spread in their last 11 games following a straight up loss of more than 14 points. If you like San Francisco to come out of its bye week with a win, bet the 49ers at +3 at BetUS.
