San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles NFL Predictions & Odds
The 6-7 San Francisco 49ers look to build on Monday night’s big win over the Cardinals when they visit the 9-4 NFC East leading Philadelphia Eagles Sunday. Last week, the Niners forced seven turnovers in a 24-9 victory over Arizona on Monday Night Football while Philly held on for a 45-38 win over the rival Giants. These two teams last met last season with the Eagles winning 40-26 behind a big game from QB Donovan McNabb. Philly has won four of the last five meetings, but it still trails the all-time series 17-10-1. NFL odds makers expect Philly to win convincingly again this season, listing the Eagles as 9-point favorites with the total set at 43.5.

Speed kills. And that statement couldn’t be more truthful when referring to Eagles game-breaker DeSean Jackson. In just his second season, Jackson is staking claim to the title of the “NFL’s best big play threat.” Jackson has eight touchdowns of 50 yards or more and all 10 of his scores have been at least 35-yard gains. Few receivers have been able to stretch the field like this guy, and he figures to pose major problems for San Francisco’s 27th-ranked pass defense.
This Eagles’ defense hasn’t been as dominant statistically as we have seen in year’s past, largely due to injuries at the linebacker position. But it is still a formidable unit with guys like Trent Cole doing their fair share of damage. Cole has been a beast this season with 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. His constant pressure is a big reason why the Eagles rank third in the NFL with a plus 15 turnover ratio. He figures to be a handful for the San Francisco offensive line Sunday. It is worth noting that the Eagles are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game. If you like Philly to keep right on rolling with another win and cover, bet the Eagles at -9 at BetUS.
The 49ers have lost 5 straight road games and ending that skid will be no easy task against an Eagles team that is riding a four-game winning streak. The good news for backers is that that Niners are 3-1-2 ATS on the road this season.
While a loss at Seattle in Week 13 likely did a number on San Francisco’s playoff chances, the team showed a ton of resiliency by showing up against a highly motivated Arizona team needing a win to clinch the NFC West. If you ask Mike Singletary, the Niners still have plenty to play for. If they can win out, they will notch their first winning campaign since 2002. That would be a huge step in the right direction.
The 49ers were able to run the ball effectively last week with Frank Gore having a huge 167-yard day. They’ll need him to have another big day on the ground to keep the clock moving against Philly’s quick-strike offense. They’ll also need another strong game on the defensive side of the football from linebacker Patrick Willis, who leads the NFL with 132 tackles. It is worth noting that the 49ers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0 points. If you like this trend to continue, bet the 49ers at +9 at BetUS.
