Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears Line

Written by Jimmy Boyd on December 13, 2011

The Chicago Bears (7-6) will try to avoid a fourth straight loss when they host the Seattle Seahawks (6-7) Sunday at Soldier Field.

Odds makers believe Chicago will be able to stop the bleeding.

The Bears are currently listed as a four-point favorite with the total set at 35.5.

Chicago became the latest team to get “Tebowed”.  It blew a 10-0 lead late in the fourth and ended up losing 13-10 to the Denver Broncos in overtime.

Caleb Hanie wasn’t spectacular but gave his team a chance to win by taking care of the football. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 115 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Three completions went to Johnny Knox, who led the Bears with 37 receiving yards.

Filling in for the injured Matt Forte, Marion Barber rushed for 108 yards and a score but made two critical mistakes down the stretch. He gave Denver extra time to set up a game-tying field goal by running out of bounds in the closing minutes. He then fumbled in overtime when Chicago was in field goal range.

The Seahawks won for the fourth time in five games with a 30-13 home win over the St. Louis Rams Monday night.

Tarvaris Jackson connected on 21 of 32 pass attempts for 224 yards with one touchdown and no picks.

Doug Baldwin, who caught Jackson’s lone touchdown toss, led the team with seven catches for 93 yards.

Marshawn Lynch led the way on the ground with 115 yards and a score on 23 carries.

The Seahawks and Bears met twice in Chicago last season. The Seahawks won 23-20 in the regular-season meeting on Oct. 17, 2010, and the Bears won 35-24 in the playoffs on Jan. 16.

The team with the most rushing yards won each of those meetings. If this continues to be the determining factor, the Seahawks likely have the edge.

Led by Lynch, the Seahawks have averaged 141.7 yards on the ground over their last six games, covering the spread in five of those contests.

The Bears rushed for 176 yards in their playoff win over the Seahawks but will likely have trouble mustering that much production without Forte on the field. Forte could miss the remainder of the regular season after spraining his right knee in Week 13.

While the Seahawks are usually competitive at home, they have struggled on the road. They are 16-34-2 against the spread in their last 52 road games.

As far as the total is concerned, the over has been the play. These two have combined to finish over the number in each of the last six matchups.
