Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on December 29, 2011

It was too little too late for both the Seattle Seahawks (7-8) and Arizona Cardinals (7-8) so these two NFC West rivals will meet Sunday afternoon with nothing to play for but bragging rights.

Odds makers believe the Cardinals have the slight edge. They are currently listed as a three-point favorite with the total set at 41.

Arizona, which has rebounded from a 1-6 start by winning six of its last eight, fell 23-16 to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. It fell behind 23-0 before scoring all 16 points in the fourth quarter.

John Skelton completed 23 of 44 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times. Six passes, including a touchdown, found the hands of Larry Fitzgerald, who led the team with 105 receiving yards.

Beanie Wells led the Cards in rushing with 53 yards on 14 carries.

Seattle, which enters Week 17 with wins in five of its last seven games, fell 19-17 to division champ San Francisco last week.

Tarvaris Jackson connected on 15 of 28 throws for 163 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Ricardo Lockette led the team with 44 receiving yards, getting all of it on one reception.

Doug Baldwin hauled in Jackson’s lone touchdown pass.

Marshawn Lynch led the way on the ground with 107 yards and a score on 21 carries.

The Seahawks have won the last three in the series with the most recent being a 13-10 victory on Sept. 25. They could make it four in a row over Arizona if they continue to run the football effectively.

Seattle, which racked up 122 rushing yards in the season’s first meeting, has averaged 129.5 yards on the ground over its last eight games.

Lynch, who has done of the most damage during that stretch, ranks seventh in the NFL with 1,118 rushing yards.

The Seahawks could be poised for another big game on the ground this week. After all, the Cards, who gave up 165 rushing yards last week, rank 18th in the league against the run with 120.5 yards allowed per contest.

Seattle has been an incredible investment down the stretch, covering the spread in seven of its last eight games, but it faces some rather daunting statistics Sunday.

It is just 1-4 against the number in its last five meeting in Arizona, and the home team is 8-3 against the spread in the last 11 meetings.

In regard to the total, these two have played to the over in each of their last seven matchups in the desert.
