Seattle Seahawks at St. Louis Rams NFL Betting Lines & Picks

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 27, 2009

The 3-7 Seattle Seahawks take on the 1-9 St. Louis Rams Sunday in a Week 12 NFC West Division battle. Last week, Seattle was crushed 35-9 at Minnesota while the Rams were competitive against division leader Arizona but ultimately lost 21-13. These teams last met clear back in Week 1 with Seattle pitching a 28-0 shutout. The win was the eighth straight for the Seahawks in the series. NFL odds makers expect this game to be much closer than the season’s first meeting, listing the Seahawks as 3-point favorites with the total set at 42.

Week 12 NFL betting action is here. Make sure you bet your NFL picks at a reliable sportsbook like Bodog, which is currently offering a special $100 match bonus to Locksmith readers!

Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck has won his last seven regular season starts against the Rams. The past couple seasons have been difficult ones as he has had to deal with injuries and with the Seahawks no longer being a Super Bowl contender, but he remains a very good quarterback in the NFL.

Despite missing considerable action, Hasselbeck has still thrown for 1,853 yards and 11 touchdowns against seven interceptions this season. He torched the Rams in the season’s first meeting, throwing for 279 yards and three touchdowns and finishing with a 96.9 passer rating. If he can have another big day through the air against a young Rams defense, you have to like Seattle’s chances.

While Hasselbeck continues to put up solid numbers, this team was winning NFC West titles year and after year and contending for the Super Bowl when it had a strong running game to take the pressure off of him. The Seahawks managed just four yards rushing against Minnesota last week and that’s just not going to get the job done on the road against a Rams team that will be out for revenge. It is worth noting that the Seahawks are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings in this series. If you like this trend to continue, bet the Seahawks at -3 at Bodog.

For St. Louis to pick up its second win of the season, it’s going to have to get some heat on Hasselbeck. With Leonard Little, who leads the Rams with 5.5 sacks, listed as questionable Sunday, it’s time for second-year defensive end Chris Long to have a statement game. Long is starting to pick up the pace. After recording no sacks through the Rams first seven games, he has one in each of their last three contests. A multi-sack game filled with QB hurries would go a long way toward helping St. Louis pull off the small upset.

Offensively, the Rams must continue to ride workhorse running back Steven Jackson. Jackson has already eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the season while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. In fact, Jackson has now rushed for at least 1,000 yards in five straight seasons. Seattle’s run defense has really struggled on the road, allowing its opponents to run for 146 yards per game on 5.0 yards per carry. If Seattle can’t stop the run Sunday, St. Louis will have an excellent opportunity to win the game. It is worth noting that the Seahawks are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games. If you like St. Louis in the home dog role Sunday, bet the Rams at +3 at Bodog.
