Pittsburgh Steelers at Arizona Cardinals Spread
The Arizona Cardinals will try to snap a four game losing streak when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) Sunday.
The Cardinals are currently listed as a 3.5-point underdog with the total set at 42.
Since winning its season opener, Arizona has lost four in a row. It was last in action on Oct. 9 when it endured a 34-10 loss on the road to the Minnesota Vikings.
Quarterback Kevin Kolb completed just 21 of 42 pass attempts for 232 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in that game.
Star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was held to four catches for 66 yards.
Running back Beanie Wells led the way on the ground with 60 yards and a touchdown on 20 totes.
The Steelers recorded their fourth victory in five games with a 17-13 home win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.
Running back Rashard Mendenhall had a big game in the win. He rushed for 146 of Pittsburgh’s 185 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 12 of 23 throws for 200 yards with one touchdown and no picks. That touchdown strike went to favorite target Mike Wallace, who led the team with 76 receiving yards.
Wallace is currently listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
Arizona, which has given up an average of 130 rushing yards in its last four games, must slow down Pittsburgh’s running attack to have a chance Sunday.
The Cardinals gave up 172 yards on the ground to the Vikings in their last game.
Arizona’s 18th ranked offense will be put to the test against Pittsburgh’s No. 1 ranked defense this week.
The Cardinals don’t figure to have much success through the air against a Steeler stop unit that leads the league with 157.7 passing yards allowed per game. That means the Cards will need to have their running game going.
The Steelers have shown some susceptibility to the run in recent weeks, allowing an average of 126.3 rushing yards in their last three games.
Arizona has averaged 127.5 rushing yards in its two home games.
If Arizona can run the ball effectively on Pittsburgh, it just might have a chance to pull off the upset.
The Steelers have won three of the last four meetings in this series with the most recent being a 27-23 victory in Super Bowl XLIII.
The Cardinals have won two of their last three at home against the Steelers.
The home team is 3-0-1 against the spread in the last four meetings, and the Cardinals are 10-4 against the number in their last 14 home games in the underdog role.
The over is 23-9 in the Arizona’s last 32 home games, but the under is 5-1 in its last six games following a bye week.
