When picking a Super Bowl MVP, you don’t want to choose with your heart, you need to use your head and play the percentages. Of the 41 previous Super Bowls, the MVP has been awarded to the QB position 21 times. That gives us a 51.2% chance of either Eli Manning or Tom Brady winning. Only seven running backs have taken home the prestigious award, and 5 wide receivers. My money is on the QB.

Also, the MVP Award is given to the best performer on the winning team. Oddsmakers feel pretty confident in New England’s chances to win the Super Bowl by installing them as double digit favorites, and why shouldn’t they? The Pats have won 18 games in a row and have won 3 of the last 6 Super Bowls. Of those three Super Bowls, Tom Brady was named the MVP in two of them. He was the MVP of the regular season and I like him to win the award in the Super Bowl as well. Value hunters will not like the 1/2 odds, but choosing Tom Brady gives us the best chance to cash in on this best.

If you’re looking for a little more value, Randy Moss, the guy who finished second in the MVP voting this season is listed at 4/1 odds. I’m not going to take Moss, however, because I feel the Giants will make the other guys beat them. Taking Wes Welker at 5/1 odds, who receives the benefit of many Moss double teams, gives you a little more value and a better chance in my opinion.

But as they say, the quarterback gets all the glory and I believe that will be the case once again in Super Bowl XLII.
