Super Bowl Odds: Point Spread, Total, & Money Line
With Super Bowl 43 fast-approaching, let’s take a look at the current spreads, money lines, and totals available. The Super Bowl odds tend to fluctuate a little from sportsbook to sportsbook, so I’ll be looking at which books are giving out the best lines. It’s almost Super Bowl Sunday, it’s about time you got prepared!
The Side or Point Spread
Our Super Bowl odds from multiple sportsbooks currently show the Steelers as 6.5 point favorites to 7 point favorites. That extra half point comes at a price, however, as you’ll be paying extra juice for that key number (see Jimmy Boyd’s article on NFL key numbers for more information). You’ll pay the standard -110 juice for the Steelers -6.5 or the Cardinals +6.5 at BookMaker.com. If you’re looking to get the 7 points, you can go to Sportsbook.com, where the Cardinals are +7, but you’ll pay -115 on the vig. If you feel extra confident in the Steelers, you take them at -7 at BodogLife.com and get even money (no juice, +100).
The guys over at BetUS have taken a slightly different approach to Super Bowl betting this year. They have posted multiple point spreads and adjusted the juice accordingly. For instance, you can take Pittsburgh -10.5 points at +165 odds, or you can take Arizona at +20.5 at -600 odds. This brings into play margin of victory, and adds an interesting element to the game that most sportsbooks don’t offer in the form of a straight bet.
Total or Over/Under
The total for the Super Bowl has held pretty steady around 46.5 points. If you take the average of the offensive scoring and defensive scoring allowed for both teams throughout the year, you come up with a total of about 46.75, which is right where the number is. If you’re looking for an edge on the game, our experts have Super Bowl picks on this year’s total to help you out.
BetUS has thrown a bit of a spin on the Over/Under as well. They offer a total of as little as 31.5 points (-600 on the over) to +57.5 points (+220 odds on the over). Though not traditional, this gives bettors the chance to really put their skills to the test. If you think you have a good read on the game, and that the odds are a bit off, why not take advantage of that fact and give yourself better odds?
Money Line
The money line on the Super Bowl is the most straight-forward of all of the bets. Basically, you just bet on who you think is going to win the game. If you take the Steelers, your odds would be at or around -260, or you would have to wager $260 to win $100, this makes sense because they are favored by 6.5 points in the game, and you’re taking those points away. As for the Arizona Cardinals, if you think they can beat the Steelers straight-up, you can take them at +220, or wager $100 to win $220. The risk is higher, as the Cards are pretty heavy underdogs, but the reward is much greater.
Take all of these options into consideration when choosing what to bet on in this season’s Super Bowl. Give yourself the best possible chance for winning by shopping around with different sportsbooks to find out which one offers the best odds for the wager you are considering. Our NFL experts have plenty of Super Bowl predictions on the side and total of the game, so if you are looking for that extra edge, this is a great option for you.
