2012 Super Bowl Predictions
The New York Giants and New England Patriots are all set to kick off Super Bowl 46 in just a few days. With that in mind, it’s time to really start thinking about your 2012 Super Bowl predictions. Super Bowl odds makers currently have the Patriots listed as a three-point favorite with the total set at 55.0.
Using the above point spread and total, there is a tool to figure out the predicted score odds makers have projected for the big game. First, we’ll subtract the point spread from the total (take 55 minus 3). Then, we’ll take that number and divide it by two (take 52 divided by 2). That gives us the odds makers predicted score for the underdog, or the Giants in this case, and that number is 26. To get the number odds makers think the Patriots will score, you simply add the point spread amount to the Giants’ score (take 26 plus 3). So odds makers have projected the Patriots will score 29 points.
Using this simple little mathematical formula, we were able to uncover that odds makers have based their lines on a predicted score of 29-26. I always think it is nice to see the line visually in score form as it sometimes makes line mistakes more noticeable. I especially like to see it this way when I’m breaking down over-under opportunities.
The Patriots are the team odds makers think will win Super Bowl 46. If you agree with them, then you might be ready to start making your Super Bowl picks. If you think the Patriots will win the game by a larger margin than the odds makers have projected, you can place a wager on them on the point spread. If you aren’t willing to risk them winning by more than three points, but you still think they will win the game straight up, then you can bet them on the money line. The Patriots are currently listed at -135 on the money line. This means you would have to wager $135 to win $100 if you are a $100 bettor.
Narrowing down which team you think will win the game is important if you plan on doing any propositional betting as well. For instance, you can wager on which player you think will take home the Super Bowl 46 MVP award. With it being a near certainty that the award will go to a player on the winning team, you will want to place a wager on a player from the team you think will win the game. If you think the Patriots will come out on top, you will probably want to give strong consideration to Tom Brady, who is the favorite at 7/5. If you think the Giants will win, you’ll want to give strong consideration to Eli Manning, who is listed at 9/4 to win the award.
