Super Bowl Props

Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The Super Bowl is the number one event every year on the betting calendar. Many people who don’t be any other game during the season will be laying down on the big game Bowl as it is all part of their Super Bowl betting experience. Jimmy Boyd lists the 2008 Super Bowl odds below to several propositional wagers that can be made on the big game and also offers his take on those odds to give you guys a few freebies for the big game. If you want his highly sought after side and total winners on Super Bowl Sunday, you’ll have to sign up for a picks package. Hey, the best in the biz can't give them all away for free.

Plaxico Burress - Total Pass Receptions Over/Under 5

One prop to look at is total pass receptions by Plaxico Burress. Oddsmakers have set the over/under number at 5 and I'll take the over here. Burress had four receptions against the Pats in week 17, but he has been a beast in the playoffs. He had 11 catches against the Packers in the NFC Title game against a Pro Bowl corner. Burress has seen the Pats in two AFC Championship games when he was with the Steelers so he is no stranger to what they want to do defensively. His big play ability burned them in that week 17 meeting. The Pats will try to take away those big plays by giving up the underneath stuff. Eli and the Giants have done a great job of taking what the defense has given them. I think New England's defensive strategy will result in one of New York's best playmakers catching at least 6 balls. You can bet this prop at Bodog Sportsbook.

Wes Welker – Total Pass Receptions Over/Under 7.5

Randy Moss is too big of a threat to score on big play after big play if not enough attention is paid to him. Wes Welker has received the benefit of Moss double teams all season. Welker is great at finding holes in zone defenses and great at taking what the defense gives him. Welker had 11 catches against the Giants in the week 17 showdown and we expect him to do most of the damage for the Pats in the Super Bowl. With New England playing a warm weather game, we can expect them to air it out a little bit more than we have seen down the stretch. Take the Over.

Longest Pass Reception in the game - Brandon Jacobs vs. Laurence Maroney
Brandon Jacobs -180
Laurence Maroney +150

We’ll take Maroney showing great value here. With so much attention paid to the Patriots’ wide receivers down the field, the flats should be wide open. We expect the Pats to utilize this area of the field by betting Maroney out there to catch some swing passes. Also, Michael Stahan and Osi Umenyiora will be battling like heck to get the Brady. Don’t be surprised to see New York’s pass rush open up a nice screen opportunity for Maroney as well. I know the Pats like to throw to Kevin Faulk more often in third down situations, but the Super Bowl is all about finding the plays that your opponents expects the least and executing them. Play the value here.

Laurence Maroney - Total Pass Receptions Over/Under 1

Naturally, we’ll take the over here going along with what we have just said in the previous prop. It is showing great value at +155 at Bodog Sportsbook. Maroney didn’t catch many passes this season, but he didn’t have to. We expect him to be a much bigger factor in the receiving game in the Super Bowl as the Giants look to keep New England from going down the field with the long ball. Last season, the Pats used Maroney a lot more through the air and don’t be surprised to see them revert back to this Sunday.
