Home »Super Bowl TheoriesWith so much attention, hype, and focus being on the Super Bowl for the few weeks prior to the big game, there is no surprise that people out there come up with some interesting theories that can only bring a smile to our face. Of course, the guys over at Bodog have taken advantage of this and have opened up a few props for the betting public so they can cash in on their favorites. Wall Street The first theory that we want to explore is how the fate of Wall Street rides on the big game. As the legend goes if an NFC team wins then it's going to be a good year, but if the AFC comes out on top then the stocks finish the year on a losing note. NFC odds are higher for this theory because if a team comes from the AFC but was in the NFC league before the 1970 merger, then it gets counted for the NFC. Does this seem strange? Well it is but if you look at the history, you would be right 31 of the previous 41 times. Now you can bet on it: AFC Wins/Market Down
1/2 Coin Toss Winner Another one of our favorite Super Bowl theories is that the coin toss winner will lose the game. In the past 11 Super Bowls, the winner of the coin toss has won the game only twice. The NFC has won the last 10 coin tosses but the last time the AFC won it was the New England Patriots. The New York Giants get to call this year's toss and it will be the first time in the team's history. The Giants are 1-2 in Super Bowl coin toss wins so a lot will be riding on this pre-game ceremony. The Patriots stand at 1-4 in Super Bowl coin toss wins. Hype One legend that is worth noting is teams winning or losing depending on how they handle the hype of the big game. The Patriots have been to the Super Bowl six times while the Giants four, so both teams have experience. However, more Patriots players have played here, they have dealt with the pressure of an undefeated season all year long, and seemed business as usual after winning the AFC Championship. You could tell the Giants players were a little more excited after their big win over the Packers, so in this category New England might have the advantage, but we'll see on gameday.
