Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons NFL Odds & Betting
The 1-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet the 5-5 Atlanta Falcons this Sunday in a Week 12 NFC South Division battle. Last week, the Bucs were crushed 38-7 by fellow division rival New Orleans and the Falcons had their hearts ripped out with a 34-31 overtime loss to the Giants. These two teams have not met since last December when the Falcons won a close one 13-10. But Tampa Bay has won three of the last four meetings and holds an 18-13 advantage in the all-time series. NFL odds makers have listed the Atlanta Falcons as a 13-point favorite with the total set at 46.

Atlanta got out of the gate fast but has since lost four of its last five. The question now is how will the Falcons handle adversity for the first time under their second-year head coach. Last season, nothing was expected of the Falcons so a loss wasn’t as big of a deal. But after making the playoffs, expectations grew sky high. The good news for Atlanta is that they are back home where they are a perfect 4-0 straight up and against the spread this season. In fact, QB Matt Ryan is 11-1 at home in his young career.
Atlanta’s defense has struggled, allowing 28 or more points in four of its last five games. The team could use a big game from defensive end John Abraham Sunday. Abraham has just four sacks on the season but he has been a Bucs killer in his career with seven sacks in five games against them. It is worth noting that the Falcons are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a straight up loss. If you like Atlanta to remain perfect at home, both straight up and against the spread, bet the Falcons at -13 at Bodog.
We find out what the Buccaneers’ rookie QB is really made of this week. After a pair of strong outings in his first two career starts, Josh Freeman threw three interceptions and was thrown off by a variety of Saints blitzes. While Atlanta doesn’t normally come after its opponents with tons of pressure via the blitz, it may decide to this week after seeing the success the Saints had. Freeman must show that he can do a better job of handling the pressure if he hopes to help his team pick up their first road win of the season.
Ronde Barber and Aqib Talib help make up a solid Buccaneers secondary. Barber picked off Ryan the last timeĀ these two teams faced off and Talib has an interception in both games he has played against the Falcons in his career. Ryan has thrown 12 interceptions this season so he certainly hasn’t been immune to them. In looking at how heavily favored the Falcons are here, I don’t think its a stretch at all to say that the Bucs are going to need to come up with some big plays if they hope to pull off the upset. Picking off Ryan once or twice would suffice. It is worth noting that the Buccaneers are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings in Atlanta. If you think odds makers are giving Tampa Bay too many points, bet the Buccaneers at +13 at Bodog.
