TCU v. BYU Football Point Spreads & Picks

The TCU Horned Frogs play host to the BYU Cougars this Thursday night in a major Mountain West showdown with conference title implications. Odds makers see this one as basically a toss up and have listed TCU as the slight 2-point home underdog.
BYU won its 16th straight game last Saturday over New Mexico. The No. 9 ranked Cougars are now 6-0 on the season and they will try to extend their winning streak to a ridiculous seven games this week.
Outside of a 28-27 scare against Washington, the Cougars have taken care of business with five double digits wins. This game doesn’t figure to be nearly as easy and the Cougars will not have much time to prepare turning around and playing on Thursday after a Saturday game.
While Max Hall and the Cougar offense is putting up some big numbers, there is still some room for improvement. BYU went just 4 of 12 on third down in its last game and will need to do a much better job than that against a good TCU defense.
BYU should be able to move the ball through the air just as Oklahoma was able to on TCU. The Cougars are averaging 321.7 passing yards per game. If you think the 9th ranked Cougars will win their 17th straight game, bet BYU at Bookmaker.
TCU squeaked out a win with its defense leading the charge over Colorado State last week to improve to 3-0 in Mountain West play. The Horned Frogs completely shut down the Colorado State running attack, allowing only 11 yards on 17 totes. TCU allowed less than 200 yards of total offense for the sixth time in seven games as well.
TCU has been dominant this season, outside of a game against the Oklahoma Sooners, and last week’s scare against CSU. Perhaps, that game will serve as a little wake up call to get the Frogs ready for a date with the favorites to win the Mountain West.
TCU knows it is going to need nothing short of its best defensive performance of the season to hold the high-powered BYU offense in check. The defense is highly regarded as one of the nation’s best with speed and power all over the field. The unit is allowing only 20.7 rushing yards per game and under 200 through the air.
Special teams could prove vital in a game the odds makers feel is going to go down to the wire. Kicker Ross Evans had an extra point blocked last week and those are the type of miscues this team cannot afford to have happen.
The offense needs to be better this week too and that may mean a steady dose of running back Joseph Turner who has scored a touchdown in four straight games and in all but one game this season.
TCU linebacker duo of Daryl Washington and Jason Phillips is among the best in the country and both has shown big play ability. Phillips gets most of the attention, but Washington is emerging as the Lance Briggs of the Horned Frogs defense. If these two can come up with a big forced fumble or interception, as they often tend to do, TCU can win this football game.
TCU averages 233 yards per game on the ground this season and the Cougars have been somewhat susceptible against the run, relinquishing 114.5 yards per game. The Horned Frogs will likely try to play smash mouth, turnover-free football, to grind out a win this week. If you think the Horned Frogs can stick to the game plan and pull off the upset, bet TCU at +2 at Bookmaker and receive a 20% cash sign up bonus.
