Tennessee Titans at San Francisco 49ers NFL Picks & Lines
The 1-6 Tennessee Titans head west to take on the 3-4 San Francisco 49ers this Sunday in a Week 9 AFC versus NFC clash. Last week, Tennessee finally got the monkey off its back by picking up its first win of the season, a 30-13 rout of Jacksonville. The 49ers appeared poised to hand the Colts their first loss of the season, but they couldn’t hold on, falling 18-14. These two teams last met in the 2005 season with the Titans winning 33-22 behind a big day from the late Steve McNair. The 49ers have won two of the last three meetings and own a 7-4 lead in the all-time series. NFL lines makers don’t think the Titans can build on their first win of the season, listing the 49ers as a 4-point favorite with the total set at 41.

The Titans will try to make it two in a row this week and they figure to have a good shot at it when you consider that they have won five straight against the NFC. It was nice to see Vince Young back under center for the Titans last week as well. He was far from spectacular, but he doesn’t have to be. As long as he can take care of the football and make something out of noting with his scrambling ability from time to time, he’ll give the Titans a chance. Other than taking care of the football, getting running back Chris Johnson the ball is the main key to victory. Johnson leads the NFL with 824 yards and is averaging a ridiculous 6.9 yards per carry. Johnson will have to be on his A-game this week against the 49ers’ second ranked run defense. It is worth noting that the Titans are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0 points. If you like Tennessee to make it two in a row, bet the Titans at +4 at BetUS.
The 49ers led almost the entire game against the Colts last week. Because of that, coach Mike Singletary played not to lose with a conservative set of play calls. Without keeping the pressure on Indy, the 49ers did not score in the second half and it ended up costing them. While Frank Gore is San Francisco’s top play maker, and he will certainly see plenty of the football, don’t be surprised if the 49ers open up the offense more this week, giving Alex Smith opportunities to take advantage of the Titans’ NFL-worst passing defense. 49ers backers know that there teams has been money in the bank at 5-1-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. If you like San Francisco to win and cover Sunday, bet the 49ers at -4 at BetUS.
