Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers NFL Betting Odds & Picks

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is taking some heat for Green Bay’s recent problems while Texans QB Matt Schaub can’t take any credit from Houston’s back-to-back wins. Rodgers will try to get the Packers back on track while Schaub will try to get back in the lineup when the two team meet at Lambeau field in a non-conference matchup. The good news for the Packers is that Houston is just 1-5 on the road this season. That has odds makers listing the Packers as a 6-point favorite with the total set at 47.
Green Bay is 5-7 on the season but could easily be several games better if it had been able to win the close ones. The Packers are only 1-4 in games decided by five points or less. The Packer faithful have been used to pulling out close games just as Favre and company did last season in its playoff run. While its convenient to blame Rodgers, head coach Mike McCarthy feels he is the least of their worries right now. Rodgers did throw an interception with 1:19 left in Green Bay’s 35-31 loss to Carolina last Sunday, but the Packers also allowed three straight big plays after taking a 31-28 lead with 1:57 left. They gave up a 45-yard kickoff return to Mark Jones, a 54-yard pass to Steve Smith and a 1-yard touchdown run to DeAngelo Williams. The Packers flat out blew the game and they may have cost themselves a chance at the NFC North title in the process. Rodgers has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 2,897 yards and 20 TDs against 10 interceptions. That is playing the position at a high level.
The real Green Bay problems lie on defense where they have had trouble stopping the run and getting to the QB. Green Bay ranks 27th in the NFL in run defense and 26th in the league in sacks. And the punting game had been a thorn in their side as well. The Packers had no choice but to release the inconsistent Derrick Frost on Monday. If you like Green Bay to get back on track this week, bet the Packers at -6 at BetUS and receive up to a 50% sign up bonus.
Houston has rattled off consecutive wins despite mediocre play from backup QB Sage Rosenfels. Starter, Matt Schaub is expected to return to the lineup Sunday after missing the last four games with a MCL injury. Schaub has thrown for 1,762 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight picks in seven games this season. Rosenfels has 10 picks and six scores in five starts in his place. The Texans have gone 2-2 since Schaub’s injury, winning with defense and a strong running game. Rookie running back Steve Slaton has been a huge surprise this season. Slaton has a pair of fourth-quarter scores to lead Houston to a 30-17 win over Jacksonville last Monday. Slaton tied a Texans rookie mark with eight rushing touchdowns during the game. Defensively, Houston appears to finally have things figured out. It has held its last two opponents to just 23 points combined. 2006 top draft pick Mario Williams has been sensational from his defensive end spot. He had a season-high three sacks and forced a fumble versus the Jaguars. He has 11 sacks on the year, but has been largely ineffective on the road with only three sacks this season. If you like Houston to keep right on rolling, bet the Texans at +6 at BetUS.
