Texas A&M v. Texas Football Odds & Predictions
The Texas Longhorns meet Big 12 South rival Texas A&M at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas this Thursday for a Thanksgiving night football feast. In last year’s Turkey Day affair, the Longhorns won 49-9 at home and college football odds makers are expecting another blowout, listing Texas as a 21.5-point favorite.

No. 3 ranked Texas can take another step toward earning a place in the BCS title game when it visits the Aggies Thursday. Texas improved to 11-0 on the season and 7-0 in the Big 12 when it defeated Kansas 51-20 Saturday to clinch the Big 12 South. Now, the stage is set for the Longhorns to take on Big 12 North champion Nebraska for the overall Big 12 title at gaudy Cowboys Stadium on December 5th. If the Longhorns can take care of both Texas A&M and Nebraska, they will find themselves playing for the BCS championship.
You could see plenty of Colt McCoy to Jordan Shipley Thursday night as the Aggies are allowing 259 yards per game through the air (11th worst in the country). Last year’s Heisman runner-up is completing a ridiculous 73 percent of his passes in 2009. Last Saturday McCoy became the winningest quarterback in college football history, securing his 43rd win as a starter, and he did it in style. He completed 32 of 41 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns to take home Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
We certainly know the game McCoy is capable of having, but he hasn’t fared very well against the Aggies in his career. The last time he set foot in Kyle Stadium, he walked off the field a 38-30 loser. In fact, prior to last year’s win, McCoy had thrown just one touchdown compared to four interceptions in losses in 2006 and 2007. But it is worth noting that the Longhorns are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games. If you like the Horns to run the Aggies off the field again this season, bet Texas at -21.5 at Bodog.
The Aggies are an improved football team. They finished just 4-8 last season and are already 6-5 heading into this football game. They have been at their best at home, going 5-1 straight up and 4-1-1 against the spread. It has been an explosive offense averaging 459.3 yards per game (7th nationally) that has helped them make the turnaround and this offensive unit is led by quarterback Jerrod Johnson. Johnson is rewriting the record books at A&M, having already set single-season marks for completions (241), passing yards (2,875), and touchdown passes (24). And he has done all of this while taking extremely good care of the football. Johnson has thrown only five interceptions this season. The Texas defense has been strong this year, allowing just 13.3 points per game and 238.7 yards per game, but it could be tested Thursday night. It is worth noting that the home team is 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in this rivalry. If you think the Aggies can keep this one within the number, bet Texas A&M at +21.5 at Bodog.
