Tiger Woods 2008 Masters Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd on April 27, 2008

It’s time for a tradition unlike any other. We’re talking the Masters and no player will get more air time this week than four-time Master’s champ Tiger Woods. The hands down world number one has been on a tear and that has prompted Bodoglife sportsbook to list him as the heavy favorite at 1-1 odds. With no value in taking Woods at all, is he still the bet sharps and wiseguys will be making? In this article we’ll take a closer look at Tiger Woods odds to win the Masters to see if he is worth betting on this week.

Why Take Tiger?

Tigers Woods is the best golfer on the planet and many experts have already penciled him in as the greatest of all time. More experts yet have considered him the most dominant star athlete in any sport – closer to being Michael Jordan-like than even Lebron James or Kobe Bryant by a landslide. Woods is a perfectionist, with precision strokes and unrivaled mental toughness. Tiger won the first three tournaments of 2008 before finally falling off in the WGC-CA Championship, and by falling off I mean he finished fifth. Tigers’ iron play has been sensation early this season and as a result, he is ranked first in the PGA in hitting greens in regulation. He is also ranked third in putting average and this is huge because every golfer will tell you that winning at Augusta comes down to making puts. Tiger has not tried on a green jacket since 2005, so with as well as he’s playing, this could be the year he gets back in the winner’s circle.

Why Fade Tiger?

You should be looking at PGA Tour betting as a season long venture and not just on an event to event basis. Tiger Woods will be the heavy favorite in every single tournament he enters and he never shows much value. You could take woods in every tournament this season and have more wins than those who go after long shots, but you could still end up in the negative. If you hit a homerun with one nice sized dog, you will have had a better, more profitable season. Tiger struggled making putts at times in the CA Championship and that’s what cost him his fourth straight tournament win this season. The margin between winning and losing is so slim and because of that, I can’t see making such a poor value bet here – especially when every golfer picks up their game for the Majors.
