Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers Line
The Tennessee Titans will be going for their fourth straight win when they visit the 2-2 Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday.
Odds makers have the Titans coming up short, listing them as a 3.5-point underdog with the total set at 40.
Since suffering a two-point loss on the road to the Jacksonville Jaguars in their season opener, the Titans have been perfect. They won 31-13 on the road against the Cleveland Browns last week behind a nice day from quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.
The former All-Pro completed 10 of 20 pass attempts for 220 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Jared Cook led the Titans with 93 receiving yards and was on the receiving end of one of Hasselbeck’s touchdown strikes.
Chris Johnson also had a nice day on the ground, racking up 101 yards on 23 carries.
The Steelers will be looking to bounce back from last Sunday’s 17-10 road loss to the Houston Texans when they take the field this week.
Ben Roethlisberger completed 16 of 30 passes for 206 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in last week’s loss.
Wide receiver Mike Wallace, who ranks third in the NFL with 454 receiving yards, led the Steelers with 77 receiving yards on the day.
Pittsburgh also managed 118 yards on the ground with five different ball carriers. Isaac Redman led the way with 40 yards on six totes.
The Pittsburgh stop unit is one of the best in the league. It ranks second in total defense with 277 yards allowed per game and fifth in scoring defense with 18 points allowed per contest.
But while the Steelers rank No. 1 against the pass, they rank just 22nd against the run with 119.5 yards allowed per game. They were torched last week by Houston’s Arian Foster, who racked up 155 rushing yards, and they face another major test this week with Johnson coming to town.
Tennessee is also getting the job done on the defensive side of the football. It ranks No. 1 in scoring defense with 14 points allowed per game and No. 7 in total defense with 299.8 yards allowed per contest.
With Rashard Mendenhall listed as questionable after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4, the Steelers will likely have to rely on Big Ben and the air attack Sunday.
Roethlisberger suffered a sprained foot last week but is expected to play Sunday. The Steelers rank 10th in the NFL with 265.5 passing yards per game.
Pittsburgh has won the last two meetings in this series with the most recent being a 19-11 victory at Tennessee on Sept. 19, 2010.
The Steelers are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games following a straight up loss. However, it is also worth noting that the underdog is 7-1 against the spread in the last eight meetings.
In regard to the total, the over just might be the play. These two have combined to finish over the total in seven of the last nine meetings in Pittsburgh.
