UFC 79 Odds & Betting Lines

For fight fans everywhere
the UFC 79 odds have been
posted by a couple of our
favorite
online sportsbooks.
This event is scheduled to
take place on December 29th,
2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada
and will feature a couple of
great fights between big
name fighters. Matt Hughes
will be taking on Georges
St. Pierre for the interm
welterweight title.
Hughes was first scheduled
to fight Matt Serra, who had
to withdraw due to injury
and won't be able to defend
his title for some time.
St. Pierre was more than
happy to step in and get
another shot at the title
that he lost to Serra, and
had won previously by
knocking out the formidable
Hughes back on
November 18th, 2006 at UFC
65. Hughes lost by TKO via
strikes in round two, which
ended an impressive title
reign in which Hughes won
five straight fights, even
though only two were title
defenses. He had
defended the title seven
times in all and comes in
with a record of 43-5.
Hughes has had one of the
most impressive careers of
any fighter in the history
of the organization with
wins over BJ Penn, Royce
Gracie, Joe Riggs, Frank
Trigg, Sean Sherk, and
Georges St. Pierre. He
has stated that he wants to
move up to middleweight if
he wins this fight in order
to take on Anderson Silva,
if Silva can hold off Dan
Henderson.
The other big fights are between Chuck "the Iceman"
Liddell and Wanderlei "the Axe Murderer" Silva.
This would have been billed as the fight to end all
fights about a year and a half ago when Liddell was
looking unstoppable and Silva was tearing through PRIDE.
Then Silva lost back-to-back matches to Mirko "Crop Cop"
Filipovic and Dan Henderson, two guys who have not done
so well themselves in UFC action. Liddell has had
some problems of his own as of late in losing his title
to Quinton Jackson back in May at UFC 71 and then losing
again in a decision to Keith Jardine at UFC 76 in
September. Whoever wins this fight will put
themselves back on the map, but the loser will have
three straight defeats on their resume.
Also, a couple of new faces will meet in the octagon
when the 11-0 Lyoto Machida takes on the 4-1 Rameau
Sokoudjou in a light heavyweight match.
