UFC 80 Odds & Betting Lines

Listed below are the latest UFC 80 odds and betting lines for this event titled Rapid Fire.  The general public seems to be a little disappointed with this card as BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson are lesser known headliners, and the heavyweight fight features non-mainstream guys in Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabrico Werdum.  UFC 80 will take place on January 19th, 2008 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England.  Originally it was supposed to be an Interim Lightweight Championship, but the previous champion Sean Sherk was stipped of his title after the California State Athletic Commission upheld his suspension for testing positive for steroids.  Now the winner of the Penn Stevenson matchup will be the undisputed title holder.

BJ "the Prodigy" Penn was once an up and comer in the welterweight division, and he has wins over the likes of Matt Huges, Jens Pulver, Matt Serra, and Renzo Gracie.  However, he has moved down to the 155 pound weight class and is a real contender once again.  He took down Pulver at the Ultimate Fighter 5 Finales, giving him his first win in the octagon since beating Hughes at UFC 46.  He had lost his first two matches in his return to the UFC, once to Hughes and once to Georges St. Pierre.  His record is still at 11-4-1 and you have to like his chances with him moving down a weight class.  Bet on Penn at -280 at BetUS.

Josh "Daddy" Stevenson is 28-7 in his MMA career, but this is by far the biggest fight he has had to date.  He did beat Luke Cummo to win season 2 of the Ultimate Fighter, but has since moved down to the 155 pound class.  He lost his next match to Josh Neer by decision, but has since won four straight inside the octagon.  He is a wresling, Brazilian Jiu-Jistu specialist who is ranked #10 in the world in the lightweight division.  Bet on Stevenson at +235 at Sportsbook.com.

Gabrial "Napao" Gonzaga stands at 9-2 in MMA action, but is coming off his first loss in four years.  Randy Couture beat down Gonzaga back at UFC 74 in August of 2007 to win the heavyweight title.  He earned that title shot with an impressive win at UFC 70 over Mirko "Crop Cop" Filipovic and he enters the octagon as a favorite in this heavyweight battle.  Bet on Gonzaga at -250 at Bookmaker.

Fabricio Werdum lost in his only UFC battle to Andrei Arlovski back at UFC 70.  He has taken a lot of time off since and is looking to rebound against Gonzaga, whom he has beaten once before even though that was way back in September of 2003.  Still with a 9-3 record and a win under his belt, Werdum might be a good pick at a nice value for UFC 80.  Bet on Werdum at +210 at Sportsbook.com.

UFC 80 Odds:

Gabriel Gonzaga -250
Fabricio Werdum +210

BJ Penn -280
Joe Stevenson +235
