UFC 85 Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

UFC 85: Bedlam tests the waters in London, England on June 7th. We are in for a real treat with 13 scheduled fights making it one of the largest cards UFC fans have ever seen. While Chuck Liddell fanatics will not see him fight as he was forced to withdraw with a hamstring injury, the Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves main event is a more than adequate substitute. Jimmy Boyd provides the UFC 85 odds in this preview and highlights the action for you rabid mixed martial arts fanatics.

Legend of the welterweight division, Matt Hughes, needs no introduction. When he faces off with Thiago Alves on June 7th, he’ll be gunning for his third 170-pound crown in the UFC. Even with Liddell bowing out, fans will get there money’s worth when top ten ranked contender Thiago “Pitbull” Alves and the two-time former UFC World Champion Matt Hughes tango across the ocean. Alves heads into this one off five straight wins and his Muay Thai style just might be the answer to foiling Hughes’ power wrestling maneuvers. But Hughes has not won 43 of his 49 professional fights by accident. With big wins over St-Pierre, BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Frank Trigg, and Royce Gracie, no opponent is too much for him to overcome. For more check out our Hughes Alves predictions article.

This card is no one fight wonder either. With 13 action packed bouts, fans will be on the edge of their seats all night long. UK superstar Michael “The Count” Bisping will get to throw down in his home land against Chris “The Crippler” Leben and “Sugar” Rashad Evans will step up to the plate against the knockout king, James “The Sandman” Irvin.

Bisping rose to stardom on season three of The Ultimate Fighter when he won the competition. Winning that competition has proven to be no fluke as “The Count” has gotten off to a fast 16-1 professional start. He has won five of six UFC bouts and dropping down to the middleweight division should make him an even bigger force to be dealt with. “The Crippler” has crippled 18 of his 22 opponents in his professional career and will be looking to add another one to the list here. Leben knows only one speed and has brick hands that throw plenty of haymakers. In other words, you can’t ease into a fight against him because he is ready to go from the first bell.

Rashard Evans is undefeated through 17 pro bouts with 16 wins and a draw. He is one of the more versatile competitors you’ll see, using wrestling and standup maneuvers, combined with great athleticism and sheer determination, to crush his opponents. Irvin is known as the hardest hitter in the light heavyweight division. If you relax for one instant, you can find yourself on your back staring up at the lights. He ended Houston Alexander in just eight seconds back on April 2nd.
