USC at Arizona Football Odds & Lines

It’s hard not to like USC to beat Arizona on Saturday, as the Trojans are coming off of their 69-0 rout of Washington State, giving the school their largest shutout victory since 1931. It was also the second time in a row that the Trojans held a team scoreless. Now they get a chance to take care of business against another team tied with them at 3-1 in the Pac-10 in the Arizona Wildcats. The college football odds makers aren’t giving a whole lot of credit to Arizona though as USC is listed as a 15-point favorite with the total set at 54.
The Wildcats could be a threat though after piling up a 4-0 record in front of the home crowd. They also took care of Cal last weekend by a score of 42-27. The bad news for Arizona fans is that they haven’t beat USC in their last six tries.
The Trojan offense is putting up 41.5 ppg and 471.5 ypg and has a balanced attack. They can kill you on the ground where they are rolling up 197.5 ypg or via the pass where they are gaining 274 ypg. With that kind of balance it’s tough to find a way to stop the Trojans from marching down field. Quarterback Mark Sanchez has done a great job of leading the offense, completing over 65% of his pass for 19 touchdowns to only six interceptions. He gets everyone involved too, three different players have five touchdown receptions and more than 300 yards receiving. There are players sharing the load running the ball too. Last week three different guys ran for more than 100 yards, led by Broderick Green’s 121 yards and two scores. All of that was without the team’s leader in Joe McKnight, who was out with a toe injury and is questionable for this weekend’s tilt.
It’s tough to find any weakness in the Trojan defense either, now that they have lowered their ppg allowed to less than eight. USC is also second in the nation in total yards allowed with 220.2 per content, and they are opportunistic with 16 turnovers forced. Last week this unit was dominant to say the least in holding the Cougars to just four first downs and 116 yards, including only 28 through the air. Arizona has a high potent offense of it’s own, scoring 40.4 ppg and gaining 412 ypg. They have been balanced with their attack as well, gaining 158.3 ypg on the ground and 253.7 ypg through the air. The Wildcats have also done a good job of holding onto the ball and turning it over just nine times on the year. The rushing leader is Nic Grigsy with 627 yards and nine touchdowns, but after fumbling on the first carry last week freshman Keola Antolin came in to carry the ball 21 times for 149 yards and three scores. Quarterback Willie Tuitama is doing a great job under center with a 65% completion rate, 15 touchdowns, and only three interceptions thrown. His favorite target this year has been Mike Thomas, who has 42 catches for 569 yards.
The Arizona defense hasn’t been as dominant as USC’s unit, but they have held opponents to only 18.1 ppg and 284.9 ypg. Against the pass they are especially tough in yielding just 151.6 ypg and six touchdowns while intercepting the ball 10 times. The unit came up big in the second half against the Bears when they only yielded a field goal. You can get on Arizona at +15.5 at BetUS and get up to 145% in signup bonuses.
