Vanderbilt Miami Spread, Betting Line & Football Picks
Vanderbilt will get their season started on Thursday, August 28th at 7:30 PM EST live on ESPNU when they travel to Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami of Ohio. Vandy will hope to get their season kicked off with a win over the same team they last beat, the RedHawks. The Commodores were 5-3 after beating Miami 21-17, but the team fell down the stretch in losing their last four games to keep themselves out of the bowl picture. Miami isn’t very happy with the way things ended in 2007 either, posing their second straight losing season with a 6-7 record. Miami is favored by 3.5 points at the Pig to beat Vanderbilt in this year’s game.

Offense gave Vanderbilt plenty of trouble a year ago and with only three familiar faces returning the problems will most likely continue. Both of last year’s quarterbacks in MacKenzi Adams and Chris Nickson struggled, and Adams will most likely start the year out as the starter. Whoever is throwing the ball will have to do so without their decorated receiver in Earl Bennett. Jeff Jennings will be the main force in the backfield, but he only gained 346 yards for the team on the ground last year, leaving a question mark for the ground game as well.
Defense should be a strong suit for this Vanderbilt team, especially in the secondary where all four starters return, including all-SEC junior DJ Moore. The secondary is going to have to step up because the front seven is inexperienced. Only one starter returns at linebacker and the in the front four. The pass rush and outside should be alright with solid ends, but questions surround the tackle position. You can bet on Vanderbilt getting +3.5 at Bookmaker.
Miami also has some question marks at quarterback with last year’s Daniel Raudabaugh trying to hold off freshman Clay Belton for the starting job. Whoever starts does have some talent at wide reciever though with both Eugene Harris and Dustin Wood having experience and solid ability. The problem for the RedHawk offense will come in the backfield, which has been a problem in recent years and could be worse with 4th string Thomas Merriweather returning after just 143 yards last year. Three returning starters to the offensive line should help Merriweather move the ball with his feet.
Nine starters will return for Miami this year, and they are hoping to improve the team drastically. At linebacker you aren’t going to find more experience than right here with Clayton Mullins, Caleb Bostic and Joey Hudson all returning. They’ll be playing behind a line that has three starters coming back, and behind them the secondary returns three starters. Bet the Miami odds at -3.5 at JustBet.
Predicted Score by the Oddsmakers:
