Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles NFL Spreads & Picks
The 6-4 Philadelphia Eagles look to keep pace in the NFC East when they host the 3-7 Washington Redskins in a Week 12 divisional showdown Sunday. Last week, the Eagles overcame a fourth quarter deficit to hold off the Bears 24-20. Things did not go as smoothly for the Redskins, which gave up a late touchdown to fall 7-6 to rival Dallas. These teams have already met once this season and that meeting saw the Eagles win 27-17 thanks to two game-breaking plays by DeSean Jackson. While the Eagles have won 11 of the last 16 head-to-heads, they still trail 78-66-5 in the all-time tilt. NFL odds makers have listed the Philadelphia Eagles as a 9-point favorite with the total set at 40.

While the Redskins are nearly a double digit dog, it shouldn’t go unnoticed that QB Jason Campbell is a perfect 2-0 in his career at Philadelphia. But if he wants to remain perfect, he’s going to have to find a way to get his team in the end zone. The Eagles are averaging 29 points per game at home this season so Washington better be up for the challenge. Washington is only averaging 14.6 points per game on the season and its inability to score has been a growing issue since head coach Jim Zorn took over at the beginning of last season. In fact, St. Louis is the only team in the NFC that has scored fewer points the past two seasons. Washington has only made it over the 20-point mark once this season and it earned a double digit victory over Denver in that game. But the Skins figure to have their work cut out for themselves with Ladell Betts out for sure and Clinton Portis listed as doubtful. That means the team will look to special teams star Rock Cartwright for a spark. If Washington can bring some “O” to help out its respectable “D”, the Skins should have a shot in Philly. It is worth noting that the underdog is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. If you like this trend to hold strong Sunday, bet the Redskins at +9 at Bodog.
Philly’s defense has not been as good as we are used to seeing, allowing 22.6 points per game at home this season. Part of the reason is the injury bug. Its linebacker unit has especially been hit hard. Right now, Chris Gocong provides the only true stability. The Eagles are expected to start Joe Mays in the middle and Mays has not started a game in two seasons. This could spell trouble when you consider the way Washington likes to attack the middle of the field with quick slants in its West Coast attack. Rams castoff Will Witherspoon will start opposite Gocong and the Eagles picked up Jeremiah Trotter off the street to provide depth. When healthy, Philly is certainly a Super Bowl contender, but it is not healthy right now. But, perhaps QB Donovan McNabb will give his team the spark it needs on the day he breaks Ron Jaworski’s record for games played by an Eagles quarterback. It is worth noting that the Redskins’ tailback issues could prove significant as they are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game. If you like Philly to post another double digit win over Washington, bet the Eagles at -9 at Bodog.
