Week 2 College Football Odds & Predictions
Jimmy Boyd is coming off a fantastic week 1 of the 2008 college football season, cashing in 6 of his first 8 plays to put him on top of the leaderboard. Jimmy has taken the point spread and the total and has used simple math to come up with the score for the game that odds makers have predicted to occur. This handicapping tool helps make it easier to see where odds maker errors lie for against the spread and totals handicapping, and it is also beneficial when picking straight up winners against your buddies in your office pool.
The Miami versus Florida game is one that we used to always circle on our calendars, but recently the Gators have dominated the action. Odds makers have installed the gators as 21.5-point home favorites and that number looks a little modest.
One team I’ll be watching throughout the season is the Michigan Wolverines. We saw a strong defense as expected against Utah last week, but Rich Rodriguez’s spread offense looks nowhere near invincible yet. Even so, odds makers have installed the Wolverines as 14.5-point home favorites against Miami Ohio.
This week we’ll find out if East Carolina is the real deal or a one hit wonder. The Pirates pulled off a 27-22 upset over 17th ranked VA Tech in week 1. That win no doubt has impacted this week’s line against the West Virginia Mountaineers, who are the favorites to win the Big East. The Pirates are just 8-point underdogs at home and we’ll be looking to pull off their second straight upset.
15th ranked BYU of the Mountain West heads to Washington to take on Heisman Trophy hopeful Jake Locker and the Huskies. The Huskies will be out for revenge at home after getting trounced by Oregon on the road. BYU had its way with the Northern Iowa Panthers in week 1 and will continue their quest for a BCS bid this week. Any slip up along the way likely costs the Cougars a BCS shot. Odds makers have installed BYU as the 10-point road favorite.
