Week 14 NFL Betting Preview
Week 14 NFL betting gets started on Thursday, December 6th with the Chicago Bears heading into Washington to take on the Redskins. There are a lot of must-win games for teams in the NFL this week, and this is one of them as both teams are at 5-7 straight up (SU) and one more loss all but eliminates them from the post-season. Both of these teams are coming off losses in week 13, Washington on a last second field goal by Buffalo, and Chicago to the Giants after leading by nine points with less than seven minutes to play. The Bears are 3-3 SU and against the spread (ATS) away from Soldier Field. The problem with the Bears this year is their offense, averaging only 19.8 points per game (ppg) and 301 yards per game (ypg). The defense isn't as tough as it was last year in giving up 22.7 ppg and 356 ypg.

Washington is 3-3 SU, but has gone only 1-4 ATS in front of the home crowd. Their offense is even worse than the Bears and they are putting up only 19.1 ppg and 330 ypg. The defense has been a little better than Chicago's by giving up 21.4 ppg and 314.6 ypg. Those numbers play a big role in why each of these teams are in danger of missing the playoffs yet again, and are in a must-win situation on Thursday night. The Redskins have lost money for their backers in six of their last seven, which would have most of the public leaning towards betting the Bears at +3.
Another big game that will have an effect on the playoffs in the AFC side is when Tennessee visits San Diego. Both of these teams are 7-5 SU, but the Chargers have been hot after their slow start to begin the year. Last week San Diego took care of the Kansas City Chiefs 24-10 as nearly a touchdown favorite to give them their sixth win in eight games and to cash for their backers for the third time in their last four contests. A big reason for the Chargers' success is how they are putting up 23.8 ppg while allowing just 19.4. LaDanian Tomlinson has picked up the pace once again and is third in the league with 1,049 rushing yards, but he'll have his work cut out for him against a Titans team that is giving up less than 94 rushing ypg.
Tennessee has been keeping things close by scoring 19.3 ppg but allowing only 20.1 ppg. Their defense is allowing 294 ypg while the offense is gaining them 315.9 ypg. Vince Young is a big reason for the Titans' success and in last week's 28-20 win over the Houston Texans he had 248 yards passing to go with two touchdowns. San Diego's pass defense could make things tough on Young though as the Chargers are allowing only 222.8 ypg through the air. Last year the Titans lost 40-7 on the road to the Chargers, but don't expect a repeat performance.
Everyone will be focusing their attention this week on the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. The Pats have already locked up the NFC East and the automatic playoff spot that goes with it, and the Steelers have all but locked up a spot in the post-season as well. This could is about home-field advantage with the Steelers needing a win to have any shot of catching the perfection that has been New England this season.
There are many more games that we will be excited for this weekend with the Colts and Ravens locking horns on Sunday night and the Monday night game between the Saints and the Falcons. The Saints need to pick up the win in that one to stay in the playoff hunt, and they should have a good chance the way the Falcons have been playing.
