Week 16 NFL Preview
When putting together our week 16 NFL preview we really took a look at how many teams are still involved in the playoff picture. There are a lot of do or die types of games this weekend as the 2007 regular season approaches an end.
There aren't a lot of fans outside of Cleveland paying attention to the Browns this year even though the team is surprising most. They have only made one playoff appearance in eight years since the city saw their team move to Baltimore and win a Super Bowl in 2000. Even most pundits this year, us included, thought the team would struggle, but they have really come on strong. If things go right then not only could they make the playoffs but the Browns could overtake the Steelers and lock up the AFC North title. This week Cleveland will head to Cincinnati and SportsBetting.com has the Browns listed as a three-point favorite. Most of the bettors are taking the Browns with 70% of the early action being placed on the favorite.
In the NFC sid eof things, the Giants were all but ready to lock up their playoff bid before losing in upset fashion to the Washington Redskins last week, with another big loss was Jeremy Shockey fracturing his fibula. The Giants still most likely will be playoff bound, and this week they can clinch with a win over the Bills or both the Saints and Redskins losing. New York is a three-point road favorite, but only 52% of the betting public is laying the points.
Minnesota is know 4-1 against the spread (ATS) over their last five and 5-0 straight up (SU) because of the league's best rushing games. If they can win again this week and couple that with a Saints loss then Minnesota will make the post-season. Washington is coming into town and the Redskins know the only chance they have is to win out. The Vikings are listed as 6.5 point favorites by SportsBetting.com and 60% of the betting action right now is coming in on the Vikings.
New Orleans is another team that is still in the hunt and a loss by the Saints will benefit a lot of teams. The Saints stand at 7-7 but will have to run the table to return to the postseason. This week they play host to the Philadelphia Eagles with the action coming in fairly evenly. The public must be excited about the Eagles upset win over the Cowboys last week, but Philly is still only getting 46% of the action.
