Wisconsin Fresno State Odds
The No. 11 ranked Wisconsin Badgers of the Big 10 travel to California to take on the No. 20 ranked Fresno State Bulldogs of the WAC on ESPN at 7:30 EST on Saturday, September 13. JustBet Sportsbook sees this game as being one of the closest of the week and has installed the Badgers as just 2-point favorites for the contest. Jimmy Boyd’s Wisconsin/Fresno State preview takes an inside look at the much-anticipated matchup from a college football betting perspective.
Wisconsin is off to a 2-0 start with a pair of comfortable home wins against overmatched opponents. The Badgers go on the road for the first time this season when they face Fresno State this week and they are also looking at their first test against a team that many experts have picked to win the WAC.
The Badgers kept the ball on the ground in week 1 and racked up more than 400 rushing yards in a 38-17 win over Akron. Last week, Wisconsin proved it could throw the football too. QB Allan Evridge passed for 308 yards and a touchdown in a 51-14 thrashing of Marshall. The Badgers also has six rushing scores against the Thundering Herd, but surprisingly standout running back P.J. Hill was held to just 3.2 yards per carry as the Marshall defense decided it would live with getting beat through the air. Now, if the Bulldogs plan on employing the same strategy, they may want to think twice.
The Badgers are expecting to have tight end Travis Beckum back on the field this week as well. The tight end is highly regarded as one of the best in the country after racking up more than 900 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons.
The Badgers have gotten off to slow starts in each of its first two games and that is a route they may not want to try against a much better Fresno State team. Wisconsin only led Akron by a touchdown at the half and it trailed the Herd by two touchdowns before rattling off 51 unanswered points. If you like the Badgers to cover the spread, you can bet Wisconsin at -2 at Bookmaker Sportsbook.
Fresno State rolled over Rutgers on the road in week 1 and now has had a week off to prepare for the Badgers. Coming off a 9-4 season, that included a Humanitarian Bowl win over Georgia Tech, has expectations sky high for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore running back Ryan Matthews ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns against the Scarlet Knights and the Bulldogs defense was even more impressive. Marvin Haynes intercepted Rutgers QB Mike Teel twice and the Bulldogs pitched a shutout against Rutgers for three quarters. The defense will have to be every bit as impressive against a better Wisconsin team and this time they will have their home crowd behind them to spur them on.
Home games have been nearly automatic wins for Fresno State coach Pat Hill. The team is 51-12 at home since hiring him in 1997. The Bulldogs are not a stranger to pulling off remarkable upsets at home either. They bear then No. 10 ranked Oregon State 44-24 on September 2, 2001. Wisconsin is the second of three BCS conference opponents on Fresno State’s schedule and the Bulldogs would like nothing more than to run the table. UCLA is the other that the Bulldogs will have to play later, but Wisconsin appears the most challenging as the Badgers have won 26 of its last 27 regular season games outside the Big Ten, including seven straight on the road. If you think the Bulldogs have what it takes to knock off the Badgers, you can bet Fresno State at BetUS Sportsbook and you’ll receive up to 50% in signup bonuses on your initial deposit.
